I am going to just change out the backing plate, hardware, linings, drum and hub with the stuff off my spare axle. hopefully it all works out!

So today I took my passenger from hub off, it was on there tight due to the linings dragging on the drum. After finally getting the hub to slide off, I inspected the hardware and could not find anything broken or out of place ... now I'm stumped why this side is dragging. The adjusters move...

Finished my soldier b device today, it bolts to my 2k lb capacity trans jack. Slip it over the lugs, and zap a few lug nuts on. Now I can take all the hubs off the truck and hopefully not break my back or ruin the wheel bearings and spindles.

Bought some goodies today at harbor freight. A plasma cutter, and some pry bars because i do split ring rims haha :eek:

Ive been so busy with work, that i havent had any time to wrench on the truck. Heres a pic of the start of my (soldier B) a helpful tool for removing the hubs on the truck without damage to the seals and snouts. I sacrificed a perfectly good spare 5 ton rim. I will be making a adapter to bolt...

If a truck gets scrapped im not one to go buy new parts when there are perfectly good ones layin around. There are some exceptions with consumable parts. In my case, I needed the backing plate and adjustment hardware (not a consumable like linings, and wheel seals). And if any fellow so cal guys...

It was more cost efective for me to buy a complete axle to use for parts.thanks hundy!

Ive got my eye on a complete 5 ton front axle. It would be nice to pick it up for spare parts if I can get the cash together. My spindle nut sockets will be in tomoro. Just need the weather to.clear up. I cant wait!

Im guessing its all the components going into failure. Sticking wheel cylinder, and malfunctioning adjusters. Possibly from being too tight, and overheating everything. Ill know more when i have the right tools to get the hub apart. The brakes dragging has caused the tire to start wearing funny...

F####d up is what fubar means to me.

So i found out my pass side front brakes are fubar. I need to get the right sockets next week for the bearing nuts, then im gonna tear down and replace everything that attaches to the backing plate. Im offically beat, and im glad im getting to know my new to me truck already! Its hard work, but...

i thought about it. I feel iffy about not taking it apart and checking the internals. The best bet at this point is to not take any shortcuts and do it right. While im at it, im gonna repack the bearings. I think the shoes should be loose enough to slide the hub/drum off.

i fiddled with the brake adjustments all morning. Finally got the drum semi loose. the top adjusters dont seem to be moving the shoes much when i look in the inspection hole while tightening and loosening. The bottom adjusters make the hub lock up completely if i turn them either way. When...

Is it worth putting the front wheels back on, with the adjusters loose. Move the truck back and forth a few feet under its own power? Id hate to start cutting and breaking stuff. But if need be ill do it

The inspection hole is at the 1 o clock position. When i turn the adjuster either way, the brake shoe does not move. There is no gap between the drum and shoe. Im positive i have turned the adjusters the right ways. Its daylight again, so im gonna get back at it.
