    If you find a 70's Dodge (800 series, I think) military de-icer truck, they used a 4 cyl gasoline(same as the mep-003) engine and belt drive to a hydraulic pump(about the same size as a wrecker). A friend of mine has one.

    I like the idea of a smaller power unit to run the hydraulics, permanently mounted on-board.

    If it was for a one time use(changing your engine), you could improvise and use something like your tractor(with loader) or a wood-splitter or whatever you can source, and plumb it into the hydraulics. Just don't over pressurize the system.
