    doghead starter relay modifcation

Going of my memory, it was rated like, 20 seconds on and 20 seconds off.(this could be completely wrong and I'm not going to go look it up.) Just about what you SHOULD be doing with your starter. If you crank your starter for any reason, for more than 20 seconds at a time with no waiting to do...

    doghead starter relay modifcation

It is using 12 volts to activate the relay coil. It is switching a 24 volt load. A relay is rated by its control(coil) voltage(12v), and its amp load capacity(two separate things). The GP relay MUST have a control coil that is NOT grounded at the mount(chassis). The Under dash starter...

    doghead starter relay modifcation

I am not sure what he is asking. The GP relay and the underdash starter relay are both 12volt relays(12v coils).

    doghead starter relay modifcation

Actually, a Cole Hersee 24712-S7 is the equivalent of the relay I posted in the begining. 1/4" studs and 200 amp and sealed, less than $20.

Soldering is good, if you have solder type terminals. A good crimp is adequate with crimp type terminals. It's your choice. http://www.ch601.org/resources/crimpsolder.htm or http://www.virginiawind.com/tips/060801_02.asp

    doghead starter relay modifcation

You do NOT need to add a toggle switch to protect your vehicle from having a starter run-on with the new relay. The whole purpose of the relay modification(using a relay rated at 200 amps) is to ELIMINATE the weak link(the original 40 amp relay)aua Not only is there a huge amp rating increase...

    doghead starter relay modifcation

If the original application of the modification relay bothers you, I'll find suitable relay used on the Space Shuttle. It won't be readily available in all 50 states, it will cost a few thousand dollars, and it wont have billions of existing examples out there(best proven option). Don't...

    doghead starter relay modifcation

Ralbelt, could you share the specs for the relays you mentioned? iirc, the Relay I chose, is manufactured by Trombetta. It has 1/4" top studs and is 200 amp rated. ( there is also another relay that is similar but only rated for 100 amps and that still is more than enough) I don't recall a...

    doghead starter relay modifcation

Tamecrow, when you used a "Ford" starter relay, you did not need to "isolate" the ground.( you do realize there are dozens of relays that LOOK like a Ford starter relay, but are not wired the same or function the same or have a variety of capacities?) Without a part number, people can only guess...

    doghead starter relay modifcation

Yes, that one should work fine(kinda loud). It's kinda big, to mount in the same location. The relay I selected in the modification posted above, was the best choice, considering size, position of mounting, load, availability, quality and price. A lot of thought went into this, and to...

    doghead starter relay modifcation

Depends what relay you are planning to use? (I have no idea what part you want to use instead) Do you have extras? Why not just use what's explained in this thread? You can use or do anything you like. Your results may vary......

    doghead starter relay modifcation

I have been under the weather, sorry I have not done this thread myself(as I said I would). Thank you for compiling and posting the info. Others including Mistaken1, have also contributed to this(thanks). As I had said before. This relay is rated at 200 amp, I don't think we should ever see a...
