What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Thank you, I have been looking at that conversion but thought I saw where some lift was required but then couldn't find the info again.

Russm, is the vehicle you installed the crossover steering on "lifted"? I have been looking at that and can't determine if it needs to be lifted or not to install it.

Chevymike, looking forward to doing the same Paradox by Design upgrade, have a Humvee crossover and already had the radiator re-cored a while back. Really waiting on dryer weather to do the work, do appreciate your photos as it lets me visually walk thru the install.

That just hurts on so many levels, the photos alone inflicted a pain response for me. Hope you have a quick and complete recovery.

Are the grill guard metal strips movable to close down air flow for winter weather?

I think the M1009 used S-10 seats, could be wrong but that what I thought i had read somewhere.

coachg31, I finally had to replace my box filter a few years ago. I was so tired of having to bled air out of the fuel line I opted for a filter with a priming pump. It was real handy when I did the install but haven't had to use it since.

Patracy, A couple weeks ago I drove my M1009 to Medford Oregon, about a 300 mile trip to drive my 1978 crew cab dually back with the M1009 on a trailer and a scissor lift in the back of the truck and various junk stuffed in. Now mind you the truck has a fairly tired 350 in it so it is a lot of...

No lions tigers or bears, but I did rollover the odometer on my M1009 which isn't a really big deal but I did manage to do as I pulled into the parking structure at work so I could record the event.

BUGOUT2, that looks real nice, are the parts from a CUCV or your own mods? I have a 1980 K-5 as well as a 1986 M1009, so far the 1980 is a bit more over built with an 8 lug Dana 44 in the front and a 14 bolt full floater 8 lug in the rear with 4 wheel disc brakes, a manual SM-465 transmission...

Swfb, also check the lamp sockets, pieces of the metal contacts break off in the socket and short across the pins on the lamp and make weird things happen.

Like any of us thinks that engine will ever be anything but clean................................when you are "carried away" that far there is no coming back, LOL. Beautiful attention to detail is what makes it so special, really a joy to follow your progress.

I still think Sharecropper needs a clear hood, I agree it is just too pretty to hide.

Metric or SAE, it is when on a given vehicle they chose to use both sometimes with metric threads and an SAE head. I figured it was some kind of exercise program so I would have to get out from under a vehicle the maximum number of times for any task. Even stuff from China, I have a "Hazard...

For basically a stripped truck they were quite expensive. But what Uncle Sam got was all the heavy duty off the shelf parts that would fit on the particular vehicle and a few items mentioned like the 24 volt/12 volt electrical system that were unique to satisfy the need to be NATO compatible for...

Rutjes, The hydro-boost brakes in the M1009 and the M1028 do a great job. I have no problem locking all four corners so the braking is limited by the tires and the grip they have on the road, not really by the brakes. Long down hills can heat the lining up to the point they can no longer...

Sorry about that, I think way faster than I can type. But if you saw how fast I type you would know I actually don't think very fast either.:? Regardless point taken!

Automatics have a "parking pawl" that engages the drive shaft out-put but the engine acts as if it is in neutral. If the transmission is shifted into park while moving it makes a horrible noise as the pawl tries to engage a detent and normally tears things up pretty good if it can engage while...
