    Deuce Rear Hub Runs Hot

It still is remarkable that they (Timken) are happy with such a wide range of free-play; going from what I would consider "almost nothing" (0.001") up to 5 times as much (0.005"). >0.1mm play may be on the safe side still, but certainly causes a clearly audible knocking while rocking the wheel...

No? Not even if I say it loud? ... repeat it a dozen times? :-P

    Deuce Rear Hub Runs Hot

Hey, glad if it helped! Actually the only reason I had posted bearing#s was for someone "really interested" to look up their exact size in the catalogs..... Now, if I had only suspected that it would cause that much trouble, by suggesting obsolete parts... sorry but I just couldn't avoid...

    Deuce Rear Hub Runs Hot

Well, they keep making "junk" because the whole world keeps buying it....! ...and normally you get what you paid for...! So maybe you could tell us your secret: where did you find the good seals??? I'm sure that especially the author of this thread would appreciate that info... G.

    Deuce Rear Hub Runs Hot

A good quality steel shim there would also help... ....but in my case it was about 20 seals that needed to be fixed and it takes less than 1 minute ea. once you have the "tool" set up... Also, the outer (lock) nut is the one that holds everything in place and I just didn't want to have...

    Deuce Rear Hub Runs Hot

No, those weren’t Deuce wheel brgs……! And little sense would it make if I just gave you the cup #s since I guess you don’t have them laying around….? (Unless you are like me: never throw anything away, you never know…!) Anyways… here they are so you can at least extract the measurements to...

    Deuce Rear Hub Runs Hot

If you mean removing some rubber you can try but I would not recommend it. You may sacrifice even more of this seal's poor resiliency... It was much easier for me to slightly press the center (put between bearing cups) to get it offset to 0.9 - 1.0 mm. That is, reduce the interference from...

    Deuce Rear Hub Runs Hot

That's correct and that's how it's supposed to work! It was exactly this brand ...... that I encountered problems with: too much "preload" and not nearly as flexible as it should be. Using a small press and some old bearings I did press the center portion of the seal (= mounting surface)...

    Deuce Rear Hub Runs Hot

For the ones who think it's caused from dragging brake shoes, please read post#1 again.......

    Deuce Rear Hub Runs Hot

Hot hub It seems to me that some of the aftermarket (chin-chu-lin brand???) seals fit way to tight against the outer cup. That excessive friction causes heat! Result: very quickly that seal ends up fried and leaking oil like the old & worn part that was replaced! Pack the bearings with regular...
