    See TM 9-2320-279-24P, Fig. 316, Item #4 WEDGE, WIRE ROPE The wire rope goes through a slot in the drum side(flange) and then it forms a loop which gets wedged (with part #4) into a pocket - which is integral to the drum. Certainly not built for synthetic rope...!!
