The 1040 runs smoother and quieter than the 803a. Also, fuel usage on the 1040 uses .69 gph whereas the 803a uses 1 gph.

I have sold several MEP-802a and two MEP-1030 generators. In my opinion the 1030 is the better choice due to better fuel consumption and being quieter than the 802a. The downside is parts, the engine parts are readily available, but if you have an LCD/electronics issue, sourcing those parts...
