I've had good success with heating the top (around the sides) of the piston with a torch and then dumping ice into the cylinder, then right after you dump the ice, smack the piston with a mallet. The hot and cold cause contracting and expanding, then the sudden smack with a mallet breaks it...
So I had chance to pull the pistons on one that I got from Lockbourne OH, where they said the motor turned over. I originally pulled the head and found a small amount of rust so I honed the cylinders without removing the pistons. Then put it back together and still could not get it to start...
Let me know how you were able to get the pistons out without removing the motor? Looks like one of mine is going to need new rings and I usually pull the entire motor out.
How far down is the pitting in the cylinder wall? Is it centralized or does it extend the entire length of the wall. Its hard since we are not there to see first hand. Third picture from the left doesn't look good but it may be minor. I do not believe the pitting will cause problems to your new...
I get head gaskets off ebay, DPEquipment sells them. If you look at your head gasket, there will be a tab with holes in it. The ones DPEquipment sells are OE with 2 holes in the tab. The holes in the tab tell the thickness of the head gasket. I believe there are 2 different head gasket used but...
If you have soaked them long enough in some sort of rust dissolvent, like PB Blaster, transmission fluid, Evapo-rust, etc, they will release. The will usually release no matter what, with the heat of the motor after running.
Doesn't look to bad from the picture. Put some transmission fluid, mystery oil, wd40, or anything you like in the cylinders to loosen it up. Then you can use evapo-rust (I think that is how you spell it) to get the rust out, finally run a hone in the cylinder for about 10 seconds. Should be...
Did you notice any water in the crankcase? I actually just took my lunch from work and pulled the head off one unit. It wasn't bad at all, really looks like, this one just sat along time and the rings froze to the cylinder. I filled the cylinders with mystery oil and going to let it sit over...
Put a socket on the crank and try to turn it over. It doesn't take a lot of force to turn over a free motor.
I just got 4 units out of Lockbourne last month and 2 had seized motors before the GL worker cranked the motor over. The auction stated motor turns and when I tried to turn the...
