it's just that the 3116 sounds a heck of a lot better around 2200 than 2700. Maybe Ouverson needs to have a buy 2 get one free sale :) <ya, right>
How much work is it to do a R&P set? x3 now. I haven't even factored that in yet....
I don't know. I intend to put manual locking hubs on the front. If there's anyone who has put the Ouverson gearset in the A3 and can say it still moves, it would be good to know....especially if they've done bigger tires.
I'm just wondering if the small percentage of time the truck would be...
This might be off topic, and it is almost certainly a stupid question but what would happen to the truck if you changed the gearsets on the back 2 axles, and left the front one alone? At least with my truck, 95% of the time I do not have the front axle engaged. The times I would have it...
Well, there's NO way I'd ever run more than 65 in my m109...but it would sure be nice not to run up against 2700 whenever I'm on a highway. Just need the justify on the 3600...well, 4200, because I want to do manual lockers on the front axle too.
I guess my question of 'is $3600+Labor worth it to increase top speed?' question has to be tempered with 'will the 3116 move an M109 that fast if I already have 395's?'
That's Erik's from Erik's military surplus, and it is a Mitchell 3000a splitter. Good luck finding one.
It takes a TON of mods to fit, drive shafts, cross member, etc.
Also, that splitter makes the deuce pretty much a road-only truck because of the angle-limitations from the shorter fabricated...
turning up the fuel and reducing your curb weight by ~20% is going to help, as is losing the parasitic loss of turning the second rear axle. (That's simple physics)
I'd also look at manual locking hubs for the front.
not to mention that it's $3600.00 plus labor - and that it probably won't get out of it's own way, especially if you've up-sized to 395's on your A3.
I like my A3, but again, increasing my cost basis on my deuce by over 4k is just :cookoo:
M35Tom has a solution:
Buy his $1500 gear set.
Then buy a 3053 spicer transmission.
Then buy a flywheel
Then buy a clutch set
Then buy all the linkage, etc you need for a third pedal
Then, unless you have a heavy truck facility at your fingertips, you buy someone's time to fabricate, install...
What are 395's rated for?
Still, to sum up 7 pages in a nutshell....it is going to cost you almost as much as you paid or the WHOLE truck to go much faster than 48-50MPH in an A3.
still on the nice-to-have list. If I could find a way to do it affordably, even if I had to crawl under and...
you wouldn't need the OD kit, because the 5th gear in the spicer already HAS an OD gear.
If you REALLY wanted a taller OD gear, then you could do both, but MY Cat3116 wouldn't have the balls to push a truck along with gearing that tall. It barely climbs the hill leading up to my house with the...
