Connected my MEP-803A the proper way as my home standby generator... Install pics...

"connected to house electrical system, 4 wires connected from house to generator lugs, bonding strap disconnected. You are using the house electrical panel ground." I believe this is where you have to be careful as some switches disconnect the neutral. It is my understanding that the statement...

Each line on the Hz gauge represents 0.5 Hz. Did you think each line was 1 Hz?

That is why I now have an enclosed cab. Plus, I can't sprint like when I was 20 anymore, and plowing snow in a T-shirt and jeans is nice too!

@Hard Head - I would like to see a thread on that. My 803 is so quite I could not spend money on making it any quiter. In regards to the ice and snow accumulation, was that with it running or stored? I am curious if they run warm enough to melt off snow and ice during operation? I keep mine...

I think the key is switching to synthetic AFTER it is broken in. For the cost of conventional 15/40, I still feel more comfortable changing oil yearly to remove acids. You never know when you may need to run it for 200+ hrs in an emergency and I want it to be ready. Every diesel I own calls for...

I think most people run the 15/40 diesel once they are broken in. I would change oil yearly at a minimum regardless of number of hours put on it. In other words if you only put 2 hours on it, you should still change it.

Mine is on the trailer as well. I started a thread recently which shows it backed beside the back of the house for Winter. I am a little north of Frederick, so about an hour west of you.

Blower and auger. It is wood pellet fuel or rather 50% pellet and 50% corn, as is the case currently. And my hot water heater is a Geospring heatpump model which uses 600w to run. That leaves plenty of reserve for my 803A.

I would also turn off the outside units, but I dont really worry about it because my emergency heat is a wood fueled stove which draws <200w. My first backup to that is propane and third is the heatpump.

The 9.6kw would be resitive load for the inside emergency heat strip. The generator would power it and provide another 5k watts max. I think they load bank right around 12kw at 100% and 15kw at 125%. I ran 4AWG from my generator to the distribution panel.

I am not sure about the south but people from Virginia north often have 250 gal tanks of heating oil "aka off road diesel" stored beside their homes all the time. I can't see it being an issue at all.

As for mice, the bottom has openings too. I saw in the news that a bad El Nino is expected to hit Cali similar to 2007/2008 and it will dump moisture across the mid to lower US. Might get a chance to run your generators this winter fellas.

I am having a similar situation. Prior to getting the generator our power would blip constantly and go out at least every 5-6 months. Granted I have only had it since April and the Hurricanes have been few and far the last two years but even the blips have stopped. Better to have and not need I...

Noticed the same thing on a propane generator I just sold and never attempted to fix it but I think you can squeeze it tighter and or shim it with metal or possibly teflon/nylon washers and it may solve it. I notice that when I held the flap open with a rubberband it temporarily stopped the...

I wouldn't dispute benefits of propane but I can't justify the cost. Be cheaper to go on vacation at $150-200 per day to operate.

Gas cans are not cheap. Store my fuel in the plastic 55 gallon drums and pump it into 5 gal can via cheap hand crank vane pump. I have 3 drums and rotate them, plus I use PRI-D. I also use it in my tractor so it doesn't sit really long. That said, I recall my dad (mechanic) once bought a diesel...

I just checked specs on an 11kw propane and it was 1.2 gph at 1/2 load and 1.92 gph at full load - ouch! The propane companies should give them away free.

Speaking about fuel consumption, I had been looking at automatic LP gensets and the consumption must be terrible for even a 12kw system because someone had posted in reviews that he had a 1000 gal LP tank that would last him a month if necessary. That is an expensive month with LP near $4 per...
