    mep-003a teardown and refurb

That's great Jim. I load tested mine when I first got it on a 15kw, 3 phase, 208 heater. I seem to remember the meter being around 120%. It was making a little light grey smoke at that load, but I thought at the time that was to be expected. You say it made "pretty much no smoke". I...

Now you'll have five million people thinking..."all that work and he didn't even polish and clearcoat the copper fuel return lines..."

What is the difference in wire length between the air compressor and the paint fan in relation to the generator?

    mep-003a teardown and refurb

I know exactly what you mean. These MEP's have quickly become all consuming to me. It's like crack. I can't stop tinkering with it and searching for another one at the next auction. My wife is stating to get a little annoyed too. I went through this a few years ago with 4k, 6.5k and 7k gas...

    mep-003a teardown and refurb

I think I am going to have to go in on these too. The only negative side to this is now I am going to have to paint it. And to be perfectly honest with you, after seeing the progress of this thread, I can't wait to get started. Btw, when you get all done, you should post some before and after...

    mep-003a teardown and refurb

Jim- You should give this guy a call. His pricing to print/engrave data plates seem reasonable. It would be cool to have an exact replica on metal plates too. Since you have done all the work he should give you a great deal too! http://www.dataplates.net/m35.html John

    mep-003a teardown and refurb

I think it should start your compressor. I also have a 7.5 hp compressor (with a true 7.5 hp/240v Marathon motor) . This is a big starting load on the generator for sure. But the 003 starts it with just change in pitch, moderate frequency sag and about two seconds of grey smoke before...

    mep-003a teardown and refurb

The parts manual pages 134-135 identifies the fuel lines to the corresponding cylinder. #1 is closest to the fan. That means Figure 7-5 is depicted wrong. I hope there aren't too many more errors like this in the manual. John

    mep-003a teardown and refurb

Jim, Which cylinder is #1, the flywheel end or blower end? Figure 7-5 shows #1 on the flywheel end and pages 7-38 and 7-40 say #1 is on the blower end (TM 5-6115-585-34) John

    mep-003a teardown and refurb

I know if the arm assembly separates from the ball joint (the 4th picture) that spring will pull the governor arm back towards the fan and the engine will go wide open (don't ask me how I know) I guess it could be possible that with the spring too high it is pulling the arm back allowing too...

Here are six pictures of the governor assembly, stop solenoid and throttle cable connection. John

    mep-003a teardown and refurb

You could have one problem that is causing both symptoms (run away and no stop). I think that the throttle linkage isn't connected properly at the governor assembly (FIGURE 41, pg. 132 in the parts manual). This is also connected to the stop solenoid. If the throttle assembly gets too loose...
