I've got two gas tanks, trying to figure out if I can combine them in to one working one. They are both pretty rough. I just realized though that my diner truck has a good tank! Problem solved :-)
Finally making some progress! Got the rear axle attached to the frame, and started pressing new races in to the brake drums. Question though? Is there supposed to be a gap like that on the outer race? It was like that on the race hen I pulled it off, and I couldn't push the new one on any...
I no longer have my truck, so this little 5x8 trailer will have to do. Added a leaf to each of the springs and had custom U-Bolts made up since I couldn't find NOS ones. Put new slave cylinders on while I had the axle up on the bench. Those shoes were the originals, I just cleaned them up. They...
Finally got the frame at my new house and workshop! The purchase of this house has been what's slowed me down, but I'm back! And now I have a space to work in. I also installed an air system :-)
Breaking apart the third member from the axle housing. I may have posted thee photos already? There's me using me Harbor Freight soda blaster. The thing is great for the most part. Gets the job done. It makes a mess, but cleanup is easy since it's just baking soda. Just wash it away with a hose.
My dad and I taking apart the axles. This was originally his truck. He didn't get to working on it quite as planned, and my mom threatened to get rid of it if I didn't do something with it! That's how I got roped in to this whole mess :-)
Transfer case again. I was missing a gasket from my set, so I purchased this gasket punch set at an auto parts store in their bargain bin for like $7. Then I got some gasket material, traced is, cut it out and punched the holes. Good as new!
Interesting trick I learned here in the first photo. We couldn't get the bearing on the shaft easily. The answer? Freeze the gear and shaft assembly (contract) and put the bearing in your toaster oven (expand). Slid right on :-) Again, props to wayneh. Next photos are prepping the spring bolts...
Working on the transfer case. All new bearings, races and seals. I re-coated the inside of the case to avoid sweating. Pricy, stinky and time consuming, but seems worth it in the long run. I came this far, why not?
Some transfer case prep and a before and after of some of the drive shafts yolks using my soda blaster. Pretty effective. New shifter rails for the transfer case too! Ohh, shiny. Disregard the photos of the brake lathe. I couldn't figure out how to delete them!
