818 now with turbo and pics.

I would say that oil return line on the turbo is too small. in the pic it looks like about 1/2". needs to be 1" or bigger. if its too small you will see blue smoke from the exhaust as the oil begins to push past the oil rings in the turbo and come out the back side. it can also push out the...

They are more reliable with the turbo IMO. the EGT's are lower and the engine is less prone to low RPM lugging. All the parts needed can be found in a class 8 junk yard and done in an afternoon. the only fabbing that needs to be done is the exhaust pipe and air intake tube from the turbo to...

it's not hard at all. if you can change spark plugs you can do this swap. it really is that easy.

Your A2 correct, the A2's do have turbo's. The original 939's do not. those are what I was referring to.

This is exactly what I meant. the 939 and 939A1 has the 250. the A2's have the baby cummins which is already turbo'd. You should even have enough room for the jakes without any issues.

looks good. keep it up. a 939 conversion should be way easier and you could use all the std cummins parts bc hood clearance is not an issue. you could even use the intercooler on the drivers side to help and run a lot of boost.

you won't get any more top speed out of it at all. you can get more hp and tq though. keep the egts under 1200, rpm's under 2200 and you can do whatever you like.

I would get a boost gauge asap. if your going to push it till you see black smoke I'd suggest looking for a new motor right now. That means you've out run the turbo ability to keep enough air in the motor to keep it clean. At that point your prob looking at 30+psi or more and I doubt that...

looks good, that is different and I never thought about running it that way. can you show some of your exhaust?

there isn't room under our hoods for the std turbo intake to fit, so I and most everyone uses the stock milspec intake.

ya soon as the boot blew off I got instant gobs of black smoke just like the old days. I am running about 15psi at max load and rpm, normally about 12. I could run more as the egt's are better than they were without the turbo but I'm doing fine with the new power level that I have. Any more...

there are several manifolds that will work just make sure that you get everything from the same vintage so it all works together. if you start with a 290 or 325 or 350 or 400 then get everything from the same donor. I was hauling about 40k on my flatbed the other day and the coupler hose...

YA, it does look small but that tube normally feeds the very large intercooler box on the drivers side that replaces the intake manifold. but yes for such a large eng 2.5 does seem small.

a few pics for you guys. this is my crossover pipe. it uses the original cummins pipe coming out the the turbo and across the valve covers. I then attach the same 2.5inch pipe and continue it over to the intake manifold. it may look weird but this is the part that cummins used. it has to...

I've put over 10k miles on my truck now with no ill effects. It just gets better with age. Still haven't touched the IP settings that it came with right out of DRMO and it still runs cooler now than it did without the turbo.

no need to. turbo is simpler and quicker and no need to reinvent the wheel when cummins already did all the work for you. I can do a kit but most everybody on here are DIY folks so I haven't been asked to do it yet. thats the main reason. if you want one let me know and I can get a quote to you.

I've got probably 5k miles it so far and yes it pulls hills very well in 5th at 65mph. I've pulled 45k and haven't yet needed to downshift with the turbo.
