Electronic Parts Replacements Info for the MEP-802A

Hi 87 Nassaublu, I was able to restore K1 afterall, but by mistake I posted the results in the wrong thread by mistake. Thread: Wireless AutoStart with Remote Parameter Monitoring. See page three. I already used the stuff for K2, and may need more for some of the electronic modules as I am...

Electronic Parts Replacements Info for the MEP-802A

Guy, What would cause the overload light to come on, even with no load applied? It is very faint. In the daytime while outside in full sun light, it is difficult to see it lit and I never noticed it before, but I found out for first time at dusk a few nights ago. I don't know how long it has...

Electronic Parts Replacements Info for the MEP-802A

LOL. We too have relied on ARRL pubs and my favorite one is the ARRL Antenna Handbook. Over the years I can attest the antennas listed in the handbook do work as stated, but many times I thought I could do a better job in designing newer and improved versions, which only led to new source...

Electronic Parts Replacements Info for the MEP-802A

I am also interested in building the remote wireless MEP starter following Kurt's awesome project. While I am still assembling the parts, I took advantage while building some work related wifi antennas to also build and tune a Quadrifilar Helix antenna for 2.4 GHz shown on youtube. This...

Electronic Parts Replacements Info for the MEP-802A

I have been searching for an "ElectroSwitch" S1 replacements for months, all no avail. However I just found a source of "ElectroSwitch" switches on ebay that are "somewhat" similar to S1, but they are NOT exact S1 replacements and require some mods...

Electronic Parts Replacements Info for the MEP-802A

I am now able to provide 5 KW of power to the house. Luckily I have NG for heating and cooking. When the second MEP comes online it will provide air conditioning power if needed. Enclosed is a sine wave image for one of the 120V lines under 4.8 KW load (the beauty of brushless contacts!)...

Electronic Parts Replacements Info for the MEP-802A

Rebuilding the old S1 switches bought me a few months of reprieve, but now one of the S1s is starting to act up again. When i go to the Start position, the MEP cranks over, then hesitates and shuts off. If i play with the knob just right, it will start. I replaced the old round plastic one...

Electronic Parts Replacements Info for the MEP-802A

Kurt, Took your advice and installed hose plus copper endcap. Hopefully this doesn't leak. Not sure what the hose's max temp is, but it is the only thing that I have that fits. Thanks for offering the info on how you did it.

MG Guyfang, it is an honor to be associated with you, Sir. The knowledge and experience you bring here is priceless. Many of us would have been in "deep yogurt" had it not been for your experience and "this is what you need to do", the posting of the manuals, and explaining the NSN system. In...

OMG Flydude92, I thought mine was a tough clean up job but yours takes the cake! So what's your favorite rust removal solvent? How did water get in it?

Electronic Parts Replacements Info for the MEP-802A

Predict the next MEP-802A failure or mean time between failures. In anticipation of wiring the generator for emergency power, I have been pushing the 802 for the last few days and it has been holding up well (fingers crossed), 2-3 hours a day at ~120% load (6.5KW resistive), while keeping an...

Electronic Parts Replacements Info for the MEP-802A

I thought ZEP only came in liquid cans when I looked it up and ordered it. In this case I believe that a liquid solvent in a soaking jar helped do the job or at least sped it up. I had been spraying the relay with WD-40 for days and while it was cleaning the metal surface it did not free up...

Electronic Parts Replacements Info for the MEP-802A

I was planning to save the leftover zep. lets see what happens in a few days. I tried WD40, but that did not work as I did not have enough to soak the solenoid in it. if ZEP works I am getting a case of the stuff.

I got the can of Zeppreserve and now I am keeping my fingers crossed if it will free up the stuck solenoid. 12hrs so far and counting. We shall see...........

Has anybody determined the best GCI paint # for the earlier MEP generators (camo)? For new aluminum sheets (replacement parts), I assume one starts with red primer and then adds green, brown black.

MEP radiator flush By the way I get the vinegar and baking soda in the largest containers I can find at Costco and I have just started using them for my car radiators. Both are a lot cheaper than buying commercial products to flush radiators. So far I am cautious on how much baking soda to use...

Electronic Parts Replacements Info for the MEP-802A

By the way I found a 50 Amp replacement for K1, or at least I thought so. While the contacts are rated for 480V AC, the coil is 24V AC, not DC. When I hooked it up to a DC power supply it drew 1.8Amps at 24V, but only 0.6Amps for 24V AC. Moral of the story you can't substitute AC vs DC coils...

Electronic Parts Replacements Info for the MEP-802A

Hi 87Nassaublu i would be interested in that website too, but my concern is that if he wont say what chemical are made of, is the cleaner safe for the engine? That's why I used vinegar and not baking soda, but one could test it on some metals and see what chemical reactions take place and how...
