Official 2014 SS Georgia Rally Amateur Radio / Communications Thread

It was my fault, I was the last to post about all the frequencies. I just skimmed through the first couple pages for listed frequencies. Again, my fault. No need to argue over it.

Makes sense, when I made the last post I looked at the beginning of the thread. Darn me for not reading further. My apologies.

I was brining my analyzer and meters but due to truck issues and my persistence to get it fixed I'm not making the rally at all. If the antenna is 1/4 wave length should be 18" 1/2 wave 36" 3/4 wave 54" 4/4 full wave 72" Side note, a 6 meter / cb 1/4 whip can be used on 2 meters in a...

I figured I would make a list for those who need it. The frequiencies for FRS, GMRS, MURS, & CB were copied right from the FCC website. Admin frequency: 145.5000 No PL Noted Green Radio Frequency: 51.0000 MHz (PL to talk via ham radio is 151.4) NATO PL is 150.0 Area repeaters via...

If you have the 2m side covered I will probably still bring the poles for mine if I can find the brackets to my Antron 99.

Need cable? I have some I can bring. Mast just ended up getting pushed to the back burner and I don't want to run the risk of not getting it finished the way I want it with everything else I still have to do.

Alright, I will bring 3 mag mounts with 2/440 antennas on them. My mast is going to have to stay at home but my antennas will be at the top of the cab so it should give good height on them. In the truck we can monitor frs/grms, murs, cb, ham band, and the prc radios.

I just want to make sure we are going to mainly use 2m for comms. Making a list of what antennas to bring with the little mag mounts and want to make sure I grab the right ones.

Step 1: place toes on tip of the antenna Step 2: key up Step 3: do the funky chicken I would never ask anyone to do something I haven't done myself. I was tuning a cb antenna to use on 6 meters and wasn't paying attention when I set it down. Accidentally keyed the radio and put 100 watts...

What about cross banding 6 and 2 meters? Tactical calls are nice I've just done events where all that was used was the tactical call and you had no idea who was actually talking if listening in on the repeater. I'm sure it will be ironed out the first day.

Couple things about that. As long as it's a ham on the radio and no joe blow this should be fine but how are you addressing id'ing every 10 mins when using tactical call signs? A directed net is fine, but not needed. Open frequency is just fine. Think about it. Directed net KE5EUA to Net...

I know if you try to talk to mil radios with ham gear you need to use a ctcss tone. I spent a day figuring this out and I have it written down in one of my green books but it's easy to figure out if your rig has ctcss scanner built in. The mil uses a non standard tone but I've been able to...
