    CUCV 1986 M1008 - In a Real Pickle - Bad Heads - Need Advice

I have used Pensacola Diesel many times. Both for pumps, injectors and small parts. They have a rebuilt pump for $395. Their core charge is only $150. I have two of their pumps and a one set of their injectors. I'm very pleased with their work. Maybe they can save you some money.

Before you pull it, are you sure the fuel shut off selnoid is working? Put 12 volts to the terminal where the big pink wire connects and see if there is a clicking sound. If not its cheaper to replace it than the whole pump. Also make sure you are getting 12 volts from the pink wire.

Dex VI is a thinner vis than IV. This could make your torque converter slip a little more. More so if the truck is loaded or towing something. This could result in higher tranny temps, worse fuel mileage and shorter tranny life. Oh and I was backward thinking on the vac valve adjustment...

The valve on the IP might be out of adjustment. You can lossen the two bolts holding it on and rotate it forward tward the front bumper or backward tward the cab to adjust shift points. Rotate forward tward the front bumper to shift sooner. Try adjusting it before you buy a new one.

White Smoke is unburt fuel. Black smoke is carbon from burnt fuel. You see black smoke from engines that are turned up to make more power. More fuel- more black smoke.

I too think it's a glow plug. At least one. Possible two. I have had this happen myself

The one at the front of the drivers side head is for the idiot light in the dash. The one at the rear passenger side head is for the high idle when cold. The one at the back of the drivers side head by the intake manifold is for the glow plug.

I think cucrus is right. More than likely coolant is puddled into the fiberglass in the muffler. Drive it 10 miles or so to heat enough to evap it out. You can also have some one hold cardboard by the exhaust. Then when it smokes, if it is water/coolant it will make the cardboard wet. You can...

Just checking but do you have the pink wire on the IP? And are you holding the throttle wide open while cranking? At WOT the pump will deliver more fuel and therefore push the air out faster. Yes this process takes forever. CUCVRS it correct. I too have seen the wrong pump installed.

I have used the port at the front of the drivers side head also. But the probe ends up VERY close to the head casting. So when you put the engine under a load the gauge shows the water temp to skyrocket! Then it drops when you let off the throttle. It would peg the gauge when towing my tractor...

    CUCV 1986 M1008 - In a Real Pickle - Bad Heads - Need Advice

Did you crack the lines at the injectors? You will need to with the wire on. This will push the air out at the injectors. When they start seeping fuel, tighten the lines back up and try to start. You can take the wire loose to the glow plugs so they wont drain the batteries while cranking to...

I would use the gasket plus RTV. These oil pans love to leak. The military used both a gasket and RTV on these. The last owner probally did not have a gasket and used what they had.

I would think it's still in the hole too. But it the broken end was on the pump side, Maybe there are small pieces in the top of the fuel pump???

I guess my motor mounts were sagging. I couldn't get the pan to clear. That truck was lifted so I didn't have a axle clearance problem. I hope his luck changes. It's fighting him every step of the way.

Its too big to fit through the oil drain hole. To lift the engine, Get a block of wood and a bottle jack. Place the wood under the pulley/balancer. Then jack the engine up there. Drop the pan first. Then push the engine up just enough to clear the pan. And don't forget to remove the fan shroud.

Do you know what end you have? Could the broke piece still be in the bore aginist the camshaft? If so, then slowly rotate the crankshaft by hand with a socket on the harmonic balancer bolt. Then see if the cam lobe will push it out of the bore. If not, then if I was in your shoes I would pull...

Yes that it the correct rod. Look at your broken one. Is it machine ground/polished on each end? Or do you have a broken jagged end? The reason I ask is normally the fuel pump arm bend/breaks before the rod. Post a Pic? If it is polished on both ends it's not broke. When you reinstall it or the...

    CUCV 1986 M1008 - In a Real Pickle - Bad Heads - Need Advice

I know I will get flamed for this but NEVER leave a multi fuel parked for a long time with the engine stop pulled. The shaft WILL rust and stick. I know I know the procedure said to park it that way. That's just incase someone hit it with another M35 and moved it enough to push start it. But...
