I always wondered why they went to the trouble and expense of adding the air ride compressor when the truck already had a factory air compressor.

Nah, I still wouldn't have added the 12v compressors and the associated wiring ;). All modern trucks have the airbags and brakes running off the same system. It could be done but your off road capability would suffer. You would loose alot of axle articulation over the stock tandem setup.

I'd like to see how this is done.

Well there's been talk of a dmax engine swap. I bet if they do an engine swap they will change everything over to 12v.

Most air ride systems ues a height control valve. It is a valve with a lever on it. There is a rod that goes from the lever on the valve down to the axle. This valve is adjustable and after it's set it will maintain the same ride height regardless of load because when the axle moves in activates...

I think I remember him saying 8" travel when he was measuring for the shocks. Dosen't sound like alot of travel but I bet it still beats a set of deuce front springs.

Good point, Kenny. Guess I just go by the K.I.S.S. principle. That setup is more complicated than the whole rest of the truck. Did you see the instruction manual for it? Looked like an encyclopedia. :shock:

It doesn't take hardly any air for the bags. They have nowhere near the pressure or volume of a tire. At the most I would have added another tank. I've done this many times on big rigs and basicly all you need is a set of bags, a ride height control valve, and a dump valve to lower the suspension.

Why in the world are they adding two electric air compressors for the suspension :???:? Also wondering how they're going to run the 12v compressors and associated electronics on 24v? The whole air bag system is way more complicated than it needs to be IMO.
