I don't get hung up on the high priced, big name fluids. The fact is, many of the brands come from the same place. I buy many NAPA branded fluids. I know their engine oils are Valvoline in a NAPA container for less price than the same Valvoline product.
If you think about it, I know several...
Sometimes search is not your friend. :)
All joking aside, I've already stated my feelings on this issue and do not wish to re-hash the debate. Best thing to do is read all the opinions and decide for yourself what to use.
I honestly don't think there will be a final say. It is akin to the Ford vs Chevy debate. The best thing I can tell you is to do your research and use whatever you feel comfortable with.

Thanks, I'll have some. :D
All I've found out is this- Paul says use GL-5. Some others say use GL-1 (which Paul says dosen't exist). Others say run SAE 50 or similar weight motor oil.
I honestly don't think we're ever going to come to a consensus on this subject. I guess read this thread...
I'm still going to stick with GL-1 as long as I can still get it. I don't know if it's got cow pee or TN river mud in it but my trans seems to like it.
What's wrong with GL-1? It's worked in these trucks for 50+ years without problems.
1) It's cheaper than GL-5
2) It's what the manual calls for
3) I'm not aware of a problem with running GL-1 in these trans.
