You are correct. A guy posted the question and people gave their opinions (including me). It's up to the individual reading the thread and TM and decide on their own what to do. I don't see it as a safety issue (endangering others) so start out in 4th if you feel you need to. :)

Yea, I know what it is. Not a real good practice though. I suspect you could overspeed the deuce drivetrain real easy using Georgia overdrive.

I do float the gears on non-synchronized transmissions. It's hard on the syncros on synchronized transmissions though. On the deuce I use the clutch.

Sure you can start out in second. Your clutch won't last as long though. Guess it depends on how well you like changing clutches. There are several small things you can do to insure your clutch has a long happy life. Starting out in first is one of them. I do sometimes start in second when...
