    Operation "URGENT RESTORATION"

Today was the final chapter of the Urgent Restoration project, the Goat was loaded and is headed to Nebraska to a military vehicle museum. I would like to thank Mark for jump starting my venture with his build, and Andy and Tom and all the other people here on SS. It is going to a good home...

    Operation "URGENT RESTORATION"

The Goodyear seems to be made of a stiffer rubber compound and doesn't flatten out like the denman's. I'm going to use some 12" 2x6's to open them up over the winter.

    Operation "URGENT RESTORATION"

Made the 180 mile round trip today to fastenal to pick up 2 NOS gama goat tires. My brother the FB hound found 4 NOS tires for sale in GA at a military museum so I contacted them and purchased the lot of 4. I knew my friend Tom needed tires for his so we split the lot. 3 were Denman, first I...

    Operation "URGENT RESTORATION"

Thanks Tom, I was torn between re building the hard top or just installing the new door kit. The hard top need several pieces of glass and new glass channels, would have been expensive.

    Operation "URGENT RESTORATION"

The only modification is to the top bows, the stud is removed on the forward bow where the bow to windshield rod mounts, it's replaced with a 5/16 bolt and a round spacer 3/4 diameter, 5/8 wide. The forward fixed window is slid in the channel on the outer edge of the windshield frame, just...

    Operation "URGENT RESTORATION"

Project of the day was to install a new door kit I purchased a while back. As with any goat project the install was straight forward but a lot of fit trial and error type work, measure twice drill once. The holes to be drilled are for the hinge brackets, attached to the bow uprights, the hinge...

    Operation "URGENT RESTORATION"

Its been a long road getting this winch project finished and today was the day. After work my son and I spooled on the new winch cable, at 150' it takes a while, that and keeping it tight and even. I know the chain wrap looks a bit unruly but it frees up the tow shackles. The cable specs for...

    Operation "URGENT RESTORATION"

Today's project was installing the M792 folding step on the tailgate. These only left the factory on the M792 ambulance version for ease of patient access. I always try and offer the most correct information I can here so others can use the information on their restoration. So I contacted...

    Operation "URGENT RESTORATION"

Water pump replacement was the project this weekend. You can see on the old pump the trail of crud coming out the weep hole, been that way since I got it. Getting the old pump out is quite a chore, the two back bolts are only reachable after you unbolt the motor mount bracket. I thought the...

    Operation "URGENT RESTORATION"

Original style exhaust pipe/tip installed today, about an hour project. I had the exhaust tip for a while, stumbled on a vendor who had 150+ of them, also nice having the hardware kit with the hanger and bolts. The pipes finally appeared to be able to finish the job. Next project inbound....

    Operation "URGENT RESTORATION"

Lots of measuring and it is installed, the wire around the lever is a safety catch included in the hardware kit, prevents the pto lever from being engaged by accident. Next project is ready to go.

    Operation "URGENT RESTORATION"

After a long time searching the final missing parts for the winch install arrived today. Now to get busy cutting a slot in the center console.

    Operation "URGENT RESTORATION"

NSN 5330-00-080-0277 P/N 11595527, I tried the usual suppliers and found none. I got mine in a lot of winch parts on ebay. My thought if I did not find one was to try and find a oil seal with the correct dimensions. You would need the ID of the 3" boss welded to the hull and the OD of the...

    Operation "URGENT RESTORATION"

The snow, cold and Ice have taken a good hold here in Maine, goat activities for the winter have come to a halt. Did finish painting the chain/hook assembly and cable clevis. Still need to order the wire rope and finish the console for the pto handle.

Thanks Mark, thought I would never find a new rear cover.

    Operation "URGENT RESTORATION"

A slight diversion from the winch project, found a new rear cover here in the SS classified section. I had the end curtians already and the color match was pretty close, lots of turn fasteners. I don't have it secured yet, just tossed it on over the bows. Also decided to remove my soft top...
