This Sunday it was the Howard County hamfest in Maryland. Good turnout, though this one has been getting smaller over the years as well. Very little in the way of military radio gear, but I saved a handful of it.
Pic 1: Another BC-348 aircraft receiver, this one is an -R variant, so one of...
More pics of military gear, and my saves. These pics from the show are units that I was either too busy or too forgetful to ask how much they were.
Pic 1: A pair of PRC-25s, one had a H-250 handset, the other a H-189.
Pic 2: These were interesting, I didn't see a data plate on either unit...
Last Sunday I went to the Berryville VA hamfest; Berryville is always a big show and this time didn't disappoint. Beautiful weather, hundreds of tailgaters selling things, and lots of older equipment (including military rigs). I even got my daughter to come along and watch the table selling a...
I missed a couple hamfests recently due to work conflicts, but I finally got to one last Saturday in Manassas Park, VA. Figures the one I get to is small-ish and I was done there in about an hour. Next big one in this area is in early August, I hope work doesn't rear its ugly head for that...
Another good show this morning in Vienna, VA, last full day of winter and boy it was acting like it with wind chills in the 20s this morning. This show used to be over at the community college in Annandale, this is the first year at a local high school instead, but it looks like the move didn't...
I hear you, papakb. COVID restrictions did nothing to help out the show scene, for a bunch of hobbies. The Richmond Frostfest was a great show that I looked forward to going to every year, big show every February, it hasn't returned yet. A lot of little shows have, but reduced attendance...
Hey, I'm making a post the same day as the hamfest, something must be wrong with me.
Another small fest south of me in Elkton, VA, a small town a few miles east of Harrisonburg VA. Once again, a small club gathering, VERY small since it was freezing outside this morning, there were only about...
I'm an idiot, I was just going through some pictures and I realized I took some at another show last June and forgot to post them up. Better late than never...
June 2022, Manassas, VA. I was a little disappointed at this show - it used to be at the fairgrounds behind the ARNG armory on Sudley...
Went to the first hamfest of the year for me yesterday, it was a drive at over 2 hours for a small club-sized indoor swap meet in Harrisburg, PA. It was REALLY small, maybe 20 vendors, and a lot of stuff I wasn't interested in. However, I bought EVERY MILITARY THING at the meet! Which was...
Another weekend, another hamfest. This was from the Memorial Day hamfest in Howard County, MD, always a good show and good turnout if the weather is nice, and it was this weekend. I bought a few things there, but I made NO purchases of military gear at this show, there were only a few military...
It's been some time since I updated this thread with my military radio finds at ham radio swap meets, and since now it's a new year and I'm getting back into the swing of things, and starting to visit some more hamfests, I'd like to revisit this topic a little bit. Perhaps get you interested in...
Now for the things I DID save!
Pics 1-2: AN/URR-27 fixed frequency receiver. Receives 105-190 MHz AM, must use a single crystal set to the freq. you would like to listen to. Complete, all there, but seller never used it himself so it's a gamble. Cost was $20, so I'll play with it and see...
Well another February, another Frostfest! Back to Richmond VA to see about saving some military radio gear!
FIRST - the gear I saw there but did not buy:
Pic 1: Another Collins-made R-390, circa 1951, 500 KHz to 32 MHz. I have spoken at length about them previously, so I won't bore you all...
Next show: Manassas VA 6/4/17, bright sunny day and a decent crowd! Always fun at Manassas...
Pic 1-2: telegraph set TG-5-B - this is a late war telegraph key set, comes in a self-enclosed box with a bunch of electronics and a battery pack, along with the headset and key. This unit was in...
The saves I got at the Howard County hamfest:
Pic 1: the haul. Stack of military manuals, most are 1940s and 1950s radio related, mostly theory and application. A few specific radio manuals but not many. $15 for all the manuals you see here.
Pic 2: Sometimes I save things I have no idea...
Next show - Howard County MD 5/28/17 - always a big turnout, lots of neat gear to look through. Sorry a few of the pics are blurry, I was taking pics into the sun early morning and my cellphone sucks for that.
Pic 1: Being in the DC Metro area, you see lots of gear that was surplussed out from...
Last one for a little while - until the next show!
Hagerstown MD, May 6th, 2017 - overcast day with a few showers, but the good news is this show is under a pole barn. It's a small show, but a few goodies always seem to show up.
Pic 1-6: definitely not something I would've expected to see...
NEXT SHOW!
Annandale VA - sometime in March 2017 (forget the exact date) - it's never March in VA without cold rain. This is an indoor/outdoor show at a community college, the outdoor part of it was killed by crappy weather.
Pic 1: Pair of Warsaw Pact field radios, the left one is an East...
Again, been a while since I updated this thread, heck it's been a while since I could spend any time on this site period. Life's been handing me some curveballs which have eaten up my time and energy, but I've still been going to the hamfests. Here's some of the military gear I've seen in...
