MEP 805A Libby Voltage Reg. Retrofit

To answer your question, if you never want to generate 50 Hz then I would use the jumper.

MEP 805A Libby Voltage Reg. Retrofit

Rusty, There are no dumb questions. Just bad answers. When someone posts questions here, we do not know on how much background and or knowledge someone has. We usually find this out during the resolution of the problem. Your good. So, no worry. Peter

MEP 805A Libby Voltage Reg. Retrofit

@Capt.Moondog, before you run out and get a new A5, I would suggest that we double check the S12 Switch and wiring. Over the years I started to realize that many folks here on SteelSoldiers own very expensive Meters like Fluke and Klein, but have very little to no knowledge on how Multi Meters...

MEP 805A Libby Voltage Reg. Retrofit

@Capt.Moondog, I would like you to perform one last test: 1: Remove wire from 5A-1 2: make a jumper and connect to 5A-1 and 5A-3 thanks

MEP 805A Libby Voltage Reg. Retrofit

Check the wire numbers on A5/18 and A5/20, not that someone swapped them by accident

MEP 805A Libby Voltage Reg. Retrofit

@Guyfang old man like you shouldn’t stay up past 20:00 MEZ. Think about your health. Your liver is rock hard, brain cells have perished in the hundreds of thousands and BAMAD has send me the results of your stool samples, which has one calling for the Priest! Best wishes Peter

MEP 805A Libby Voltage Reg. Retrofit

I would do the troubleshooting in post #45 as we eventually will get to the root cause of the problem adjusting the generator via A5 to 60Hz with S12 set to 50Hz is not a good idea and not recommended at all. This can lead to instability problems which you have already experienced to a certain...

MEP 805A Libby Voltage Reg. Retrofit

ok, for the moment I believe that the problem is in the S12 circuit S12 Terminal #3 connects to K21 Terminal A which is one of the two legs of the relay Coil. Check on K21 Terminal B for 0V / continuity ( less then 1 Ohm resistance) to chassis Then check: The Voltage on S12 Terminals 2 and 3...

MEP 805A Libby Voltage Reg. Retrofit

@Capt.Moondog Ok, understood - it is easy to miscommunicate in these threads. Thanks for clarifying this. Next questions: 1) have you tried to adjust R2 which is the Rheostat “Frequency “ on your front panel with S12 set to 60Hz? 2) Does the Frequency / rpm change when S12 is set to 50Hz and...

MEP 805A Libby Voltage Reg. Retrofit

@Capt.Moondog In your first post on this thread, which is post #1, you wrote: “Has anyone bought and retrofitted a MEP 805A generator from TRC to Libby with a Libby retrofit kit. there is one on eBay and been having problems with my hertz jumping around won’t stay on 60 just jumps back to 50...

MEP 805A Libby Voltage Reg. Retrofit

@Capt.Moondog could you please confirm, that you understand that Voltage Regulator controls the output voltage and that Frequency is controlled solely by the governor controller?
  13. peapvp

MEP 805A Libby Voltage Reg. Retrofit

Why are we looking at the Voltage Regulator if your problem is Frequency? The Frequency the generator puts out is directional proportional to the engine RPM 60 Hz = 1800 RPM 50 Hz = 1500 RPM This is controlled / regulated by the governor controller A5 I would check the Magnetic Pickup Sensor...
