Finally making some headway. Ended up having to buy a tractor to lift the bed and a miller bobcat 250 to do the repairs with. Quick pic while test fitting.

We bought a tractor with a loader. Now I will be able to make some progress. Still haven't touched the bed anymore since being blasted and primed. With the loaded, I'll be able to build the subframe and move it around. Not making the progress I was hoping for but it's almost time to park the...
Yes. It has a 2" against the drum, wheel, spacer, wheel. Not ideal but will work till I get the rear converted to disc. The wheel is to small for the drum without the spacer. One thing I'm seeing is the need to get my brake lines installed sooner than later. That are tight as can be. I've been...
Still working away. Going to do some welding and mods to the wrecker bed. It's currently standing on its front for ease of access. Cut the mufflers off tonight. Exhaust was rotted behind them. Sounds great now.

Looks sharp crash!
I finished my lift finally. Took the cross member out and cut it with my torch. Lots it clearance now. Truck is a beast off road. Dropping bed off tues to get blasted. Will be getting comfortable with a cut off tool when I get it back to make room for the tires.
Drove the...
Theres nothing good in there anymore. We have burned a bunch though. Hopefully the builder will get it all hauled off sooner than later. The pile is huge and looks trashy! (Pun intended) if your local you'd be welcomed to get whatever you could use

Haven't messed with the wrecker bed lately. Been busy lifting the 08. Still need to find a solution for my front driveshaft. I've gotten some great info here but it looks like the cutting torch is going to come out to give me the needed clearance. Here's some pics. Front wheel well is about 48"...
I measured them both. I wish we had the AC conversation earlier! I wonder if it would be easier to move the axle back of cut the fenders wide on the front. Here I thought this wasn't going to be a headache!
I'm really only concerned with how to safely and easily move the bed around to weld...
If I remember right, the ca length is within 1". The only thing that concerns me is I might have to cut about three inches off the rear of the frame. I'll go out and measure everything again.

Here's a current pic of truck, wrecked bed in pieces and the reason my wife is less than thrilled I'm building a wrecker! The house isn't going to be yellow either!
Brett
Been tearing apart the bed to prepare for sand blasting. Not making the progress I wanted to with the weather being a little on the warm side, building our house and smashing my finger which blew it open! So far the boom is apart and all the electrical is stripped. I have been pricing elec/hyd...
Got home last night about midnight. Lots of diesel and miles. Was able to get the front hubs with new pads and calipers installed yesterday. Dismounted 5 of 6 bead locks with run flats and installed on 16.5 dually rims. Looks good but a lift will really set it off. The wrecker bed has a small...
I'll be leaving tomorrow for my parts run. Wrecker body, 6 tires, 6 wheels and dually front hubs.
I hope the condition is better than I'm preparing for.

Once I get my hands on it I'll have a better idea of everything I guess. This will probably be a several week/month project so I'll have time to figure it all out I hope! Looking forward to getting the pieces all put together.

I think I have this figured out. Here's my truck. I've checked it out for years when visiting family in Arkansas. Finally located the owner and asked how much or if it was even for sale. They called back and gave me a price. I checked it out the day before coming home. Wouldn't shift and wasn't...
Where are you getting your Holmes info from? I'm trying to figure out how the winch works? I'm assuming off the transfer case the pto turns a shaft which in turn spins a sprocket that's attached to the chain spinning the winch. How do the tailboard controls control the power in/out? This isn't...
Recovery is gonna have the show piece! Man what a great build you have started! Mine will be more of a rat rod compared to yours!
a few hard details about my build! I've always used photobucket links for pics before so I will need to learn how to add pics for here.
