    There should be gear oil in the main body and hydraulic oil in the power piston and control valve. It appears your seals gave way and the hydraulic oil mixed with the gear oil.     It looks like you had a loose of lubrication which caused extreme wear. You compounded the problem by tightening the sector shaft adjustment. I've seen this happen before. With all the small particles of metal floating around your gear, I'm sure there is not much salvageable by now.
