Again I must say to take your engine to a machine shop to get them bored out. Never use a hone for this. They are not made for this type of job. The only time I would use a hone to bore out a cylinder is if it's the apocalypse and I must get this engine running to save my family and friends...
You should never use a hone to fit over-size pistons. Always take it to a machine shop to do this kind of work. There is no way you can make perfectly straight holes with a hone. Your just asking for trouble doing that.
I totally agree with you guys about the dangers of high voltage. We had the first hybrid bus in public transit. It was the Breda bus . Made by Breda in Italy. It ran on diesel until it went into the tunnels, then it switched to 700 volts DC on the overhead power lines. One of the regular...
No it won't. What will happen is the pits will allow gasses to bypass the rings. Eventually they will wear a groove in the cylinder wall. I've seen this happen before. It takes awhile to do it, but your engine will not last near as long if done correctly. If the pits will not come out with...
Diesel fuel that has been properly treated can easily last up to 10 years in proper storage. I personally used fuel that was stored for over 5 years with no problems.
Now Kerosene that is sealed has been known to last for decades !
These projects have a way of getting out of hand. Especially doing 3. I'm a professional mechanic by trade and I spent 6 months of my free time fixing up my first MEP-003A. You try and get every little detail just right and sometimes that is just not a realistic approach. On my two MEP-002A's I...
Am sure Peter will finish. He has too much invested now to quit. Probably just taking a break, it can be mind numbing dealing with all the problems of fixing these units plus all the stress of life.
Peter, "In for a penny, in for a pound" . The way your building these units, they will be total rebuilds and will probably out last all of us ! I've said it before and I'll say it again, Great job !!!
The injector pumps have extremely tight clearances, so I would just dunk them into some Kerosene. Don't put them into any solution that would damage the seals thought.
Yes that would work just fine. I would also buy the diamond blade for it. This way you will get a perfect fit on every ring. That's what the Pro racers do ! and really good engine rebuilders.
Peter, fit the rings into the bore and then check the end-gap. You can use a piston to push down a ring to make sure it is parallel to the bore. You might have to shave off some of the rings with a ring file.
