Considering that system costs around $5,000.00 I would be going to jail for awhile if caught ! You can look it up. It's the "Amerex" fire suppression system.
Actually that's pretty much what the busses have. There is a 30 gallon tank of flame retardant and sensors all over the engine in case of fire. There is also an emergency switch located by the driver which they can activate manually to flood the engine bay which also kills the engine.
That's also a reason I went with the fuel shut-off valve. Those full air shutoffs can damage the engine ie: blown gaskets even busted manifolds. Remember the engine is still spinning over 2600 rpm's (usually the rpm when you pull the trigger and stop a runaway) so it will take awhile before it...
I had actually bought a Cummins engine fuel shut-off valve, but I didn't want to be dependent on the electrical system to shut down. I do like that butterfly idea though. How much does it cost ?
It's just a standard "WOG 1/2" NPT Ball Valve" I used that larger valve since the hole in the valve is actually 3/8" . I just used bushings to bring it back to size.
That's a great valve, but how much does it cost ? I had that "WOG 1/2" NPT Ball Valve" just laying around so it cost me just the one fitting and some time. Most of our runaway engines are caused from the injection pump going "wonky" . That is the official term also.
I actually like the FDC. Mine works great for now, and in the future if it starts to act up I might see if I can fix the sealing problem by a little machine work and adding some 'O'rings.
I finally installed my fuel safety shut-off valve. This is for "just in case" when I'm messing with the injection pump settings. Don't want any run away engines here.
