That's because they wouldn't give us new ones to play with ! We had to keep the old things running as long as possible. Now the Army gets all the new good stuff . Remember USMC stands for "Uncle Sam's Misguided Children" . -

The screws are tightened to about 30 InIbs, (need to look-up the actual spec) not finger tight. Also there is "not" suppose to be a gap there. -

It's a bit tricky but the door plates can be changed out. You can make up your own out of stainless steel. The rust can also be dealt with, with a few well placed repair panels. Use the search function for people who have repaired their rusty cabs. -

Move the axles back a few more feet and that would look pretty cool and be very functional !
