    The mythical CUCV 4L80E swap

Great find on the shims Kaiserjeeps ! The only parts you can buy for the NP205 are either NOS which they want a fortune for. Used which can be a crap-shoot or parts made in China which are usually garbage. It's nice to find some parts that are new and still reasonably priced !

    The mythical CUCV 4L80E swap

The NP205 was designed to run gear oil. The only time they ever mentioned using ATF was with the (failed) front synchro shaft design (1982-1984) . I have run Synthetic gear oil in mine for years now. Works great !

    The mythical CUCV 4L80E swap

Well from what you just mentioned the shop sounds like they know what their doing. I would get a written estimate and a written guarantee stating what would be repaired on a return.

Oh Oh !!! We better watch that !

    The mythical CUCV 4L80E swap

You would be surprised what a lot of shops consider a proper rebuild to be ! I always replaced all bushings, all thrustwashers and Torringtons and all seal rings including the Teflon ones. Also all steels and fibers. A lot of shops reuse the steels and fibers that they feel are OK. You go to a...

    The mythical CUCV 4L80E swap

Well $2,000.00 is a bit high, but if there installing good components like "Kolene" steels and "Red Alto" clutches then maybe. At that price I expect to have a new control module and wiring also installed along with new solenoids. Plus new bushings. The last race transmission I built two years...

    The mythical CUCV 4L80E swap

All those in the transmission rebuild business know that "TCI" is garbage. They only sell aftermarket since most business's will not deal with them.

    The mythical CUCV 4L80E swap

The poster with all the output shafts shows one to use for the NP205. It says 9 1/4 long. This will not work. At least with the fig 8 adapter. You want the fully splined 8 + inch shaft that offers unlimited choices on trimming and makes sure you have full spline engagement with the transfer...

Is this your first boy ? I remember when my son was born. That is something you never forget !

I was actually waiting for your seal installer, but yes this looks like it will work.

    The mythical CUCV 4L80E swap

Well then give use some pictures and a statement of how it's done. You have me curious now. Actually I'm all in favor of a good and cheap way of doing things so long as it really works reliably . Though I do question your 99% . I have found out doing tranny rebuilding now for 40 years that the...

    The mythical CUCV 4L80E swap

I'm curious brazengoat. How many automatic transmissions have you rebuilt ? If you have built more then one then you would realize that the seals can be damaged from a faulty install and still pass a air pressure check on the bench. It's after it has been run awhile that the damaged seal will...

    The mythical CUCV 4L80E swap

You can do that and run the risk of a damaged seal ring and not know until it is in the truck. Or you can buy the correct tool and do it right.

    The mythical CUCV 4L80E swap

You will need special tools to assemble it though. Or you run the risk of damaging seals and the Teflon rings.

If you get one out of a 4X4 truck you will not need that adapter.

    The mythical CUCV 4L80E swap

I almost got one for $300.00 . It was out of a destroyed 2014 1 ton Chevy. The guy was parting it out and I got there too late !

    The mythical CUCV 4L80E swap

The only problem is all the special tools needed. I spent over $500.00 for all my 4L80E tools. If I was going to do this I would go with the 6L90E . Though all the special tools cost me over $2000.00 so the average guy should just take it to a transmission shop to get it rebuilt.
