    Multifuel Automatic Transmisson?

Are you saying you installed a Allison MT42 series behind a Cummins 5.9 engine ? How did it work out ?

    Multifuel Automatic Transmisson?

All the Allison's that were "mechanically shifted" had 1:1 in final drive. It is the "electronically shifted" units that have overdrives. The old MT30/41/42 series transmissions where all cast-iron and used in everything from buses to dump trucks. They were extremely hardy units but their weight...

    Multifuel Automatic Transmisson?

Personally I would stay away from any transmission with a computer for a Multi-fuel engine. All the needed inputs and sensors would just be a pain in the butt. I have a M600 series sitting outside right now, though I will probably go with the AT540. Smaller and easier to install. Though if I...

    Multifuel Automatic Transmisson?

I do know about the PTO ring. Also you could have a "retarder" installed there if you ordered it that way. Or you could rebuild it and install either the PTO ring or retarder. I would go with the PTO ring myself. I have a couple of transmissions I'm looking at right now. Both already have PTO's...

Do you know how to get in touch with him ? Thanks.

    Multifuel Automatic Transmisson?

This question was never answered. Does anyone know the correct answer ? I'm thinking about installing a AT545 Allison in one of my older deuces behind a multifuel. The AT545 is rated to handle up to 30,000 Ibs so it would be fine in a deuce. Just push the transfer case back a bit and play with...

    Multifuel Automatic Transmisson?

They are great looking trucks. I have never seen one for sell though have you ? Does the Canadian Government even allow the sale of their trucks ?

You could go with the 2000 series. It is longer then the stock manual though so you will need to modify the transfer-case position and adjust the length of the drivelines. They are good transmissions though with very few recalls done to them.

    Multifuel Automatic Transmisson?

The MT600 series are longer and much heavier then the AT500 series . I have a MT654 from a Tanker truck which I thought at one time I would put into the deuce, but this thing is just too big ! Also the AT500 series transmissions are not electronic ! The only electrical is the neutral safety switch.

It was never specified what gasser it was. So if you say it's a 5 ton now, that's fine. Old age happens to us all.

I went out and measured the hood on my 1952 M35 Gasser today. It is the same as my 1988 M35A2C hood. It even has the same tapering to the sides. In my opinion it's identical.

I'll have to go out tomorrow and measure mine. I thought they where the same size !

    Multifuel Automatic Transmisson?

If you use the AT540 tranny, then you will not have any electronics, but you will not have an overdrive either. I personally don't like all the new electronics on modern vehicles, but working on the new style Allison transmissions I rarely see any electronic problems. Mostly the wiring gets old...

    Multifuel Automatic Transmisson?

You could have used the AT545 but you would need a valve body dyno to set the shift points. You could try it by yourself but by the time you finished adjusting and installing the oil pan and oil and checking and adjusting again, repeat until done, you would save yourself money and LOTS of time...

    Multifuel Automatic Transmisson?

Yes, all early Allison's have a 1:1 final ratio . They came out with overdrive when they went to the "World" transmissions. All electronic. They found it was easier to control ratios better, just software updates. As far as mating up the new style tranny to an older non electronic engine it's...

    Multifuel Automatic Transmisson?

The Allison transmission in the A3 is not electronic. No AT540 series trannys where. That also applies to the MT600 series and the HT700 series.
