JP, your suggestion was a good one. Apparently, due to the thicker bases of the LED bulbs, when putting the incandescents back in, the clamping force was a little weak. Took out the offending sockets and did some slight manipulation of the socket metal and BAM !, let there be light. And now...
I am going to continue working on this bulb thing today. Question. Why do one or two of the LED bulbs glow (very faintly) when they are supposed to be off? Is this a sign of a polarity issue? It doesn't do it with incandescent bulbs.
Thanks Dark Seas, all grounds were checked, cleaned and SAT before hand.
Thanks JP, I'll give your suggestion a shot. I am will to try anything. More to follow.
I have gone over the whole instrument cluster. Connection clean, and tight, everything on the circuit board have continuity, all bulb sockets seated correctly, and all bulbs tested (SAT). I replaced one 30 amp fuse (not blown, but slightly melted as noted above.
The issue is affecting the...
OK, I did a continuity check on the circuit board, all good. Hooked it all back up again. I have general lighting and the glow plug light works, but that's it. She fires up fine, but no vital indicator lamps are lighting. Additionally, I noticed that my fuel gauge, which worked before I...
OK, rotated the GEN 1 and 2 bulbs, no joy, still dark on start up. I have now removed all LED lamps and replaced with incandescent 168's for any indicator circuit, except for the actual gauge lighting. Still no joy for GEN 1 and 2. I also noticed that the indication for oil, temp, low...
RGR Rick, thanks. I took apart everything over the past two weeks, down to the bare plastic housing. Cleaned everything, including all the contacts, checked all the bulb holder ears and made sure I have the proper bulbs where needed. Everything did work before I took her apart, and works now...
OK, done with the relamp and reassembling my dash. However, I thought it a good idea to test before completing the reassembly task.
So now I have a quick question. All lights are bright lights (pics to follow) but when waiting for the glow plugs (Wait Light flashing), I just noticed that my...
Thanks JP. Yeah, that guy is about two hours north of me, in Haverhill MA. I just got done watching a lot of his videos. Straight forward and easy to understand.
As for the TM's, I have a complete library (even two originals (w/updates). I have been going through them over the last week and...
OK, one last (hopefully) question. According to the video, a 168 bulb goes into the GEN 1 holder and a 194 bulb goes into the GEN 2 holder. It that correct? For reference, does anyone know where is this (and other lighting) tidbit of information kept?
Waiting on my red and yellow LED's to...
Thanks Rick, I didn't know that. If I go LED in the dash, does it make a difference with the bulb type? I have found the 168 LED, but haven't looked for the 194 replacement ..... yet.
Thanks. I guess I am searching for additional information.
1. What bulbs cannot be converted to LED. Not sure, but I believe those are limited to the GEN 1 & 2 bulbs, which need to remain 168 incandescent, correct ?
2. According to some of the charts I am seeing, the remaining dash lights...
I know I thought it was sort of a dumb question, but I was still hoping for a response. Still look for all (interior and exterior) bulb types/numbers and which ones can be replaced by LED and which ones can't.
Maybe this would make a good "Sticky" and maybe not. I looked (as best as my skills allow) and I didn't find a comprehensive list for what light bulbs go where in our trucks. Also, when converting to LED, what bulbs must remain incandescent, in order to maintain proper operation of certain...
