I don't think this thread is about guns. As far as combat fighting vehicles, the govt. only provides an SF-97 form on vehicles that are generally road-going vehicles. Something like a Bradley never will be on-road, as it's 12 ft. wide and 50,000# GVW, just for starters.
To All,
Here's a few...
I'd say you're mostly correct on things. But there are some assumptions that are often incorrectly made. Try these:
Title49USC30112 is the federal prohibition against manufacturing, selling, or importing a vehicle unless it meets FMVSS. This (subsection B9) is often referred to as the "25yr...
Sorry, didn't mean to offend. Perhaps I need to rephrase that.
I fully agree that your DMV is a state regulatory agency. That means they have to administer state law. But even though your DMV is likely part of your state's DOT and there is also a federal U.S. DOT, your state's DMV doesn't...
Maverick,
I'm not trying to say that what you're doing isn't worthwhile, but I'll be surprised if you can change registration requirements through federal action/s. I write that, because of an email I got in 2008 from Coleman Sachs, Chief Import and Certification Division, U.S. DOT - NHTSA, in...
Hi WireFox,
In Wis. we got statute amended such that all historic military vehicles and former military vehicles are exempted from the FMVSS Certification Label requirement [s.341.10(6), Wis. Stats.]. We also got Humvees specifically listed as eligible for Collector Vehicle registration, with...
I will toss in this afterthought. There may well be something that MVPA could do to help the individual state groups trying to defend our rights.
The national MVPA could provide a toolkit of relevant documents, laws, and court decisions which could be used to promote our cause in individual...
The fight over former military vehicles started years ago in Wisconsin. I got dragged into it in 2007. Tom Zat, Curt Rymkus and I are still at it. So far, we've won three appeals and have gotten passage of 3 bills into law. We didn't do it alone, and owe a lot of thanks to all the in-state...
A couple of thoughts, from what we've been through here:
The authority which sets FMVSS requirements: the Federal Govt., is the same authority that determines which former military vehicles may be resold as surplus on-road licensable Motor Vehicles, and only provides SF-97 forms for obtaining a...
