    816 Jakes and Turbo !!!!

The neck was holding it off but more so the air crossover tube,. Not to mention the extra height of the Jake's. When doing a turbo you will have to raise the hood a minimum of 2.5 inches. I just hate the bread box scoop look and wanted to keep a stock profile. Some guys turbo and run a mile of...

    816 Jakes and Turbo !!!!

yeh, I pretty stoked, been almost 2 years of frustration and arse scratching for something I knew was stupid simple but couldn't find it. Still think dumping the Crane governor will simplify things immensely. The 816s do most of their work off idle anyway, and the hand throttle can be set for...

    816 Jakes and Turbo !!!!

Thanks Red, Reading back over this thread to update some testing yesterday. IF the 10 goes in soon- aka 2018 then I will be looking for a 939 shaft to torture myself with. UPDATE:::: I got my RPM back....:clinto: had to seal up the crane rotary motor as the bolts on the top cover backed...

    816 Jakes and Turbo !!!!

yes the front driveshaft will have to go if the Eaton goes in, Someone mentioned a two peice shaft with a carrier bearing off a,,,,, 921a2 ????? that I would have to find in order to rout around the twin countershaft Eaton. and the front PTO shaft for the winch would have to be converted to...

    816 Jakes and Turbo !!!!

Well,,, sorta ready for winter,, blew the CV on the crane last nite. So the debacle begins,,, do I convert to the 936 hydraulic system and fabb up a mount for the drive off the existing power divider output? Re invent the existing CV shaft with agg PTO parts? get a new CV shaft for $2000...

    816 Jakes and Turbo !!!!

Yup, thats pretty much whats going on. Long cranks unless its been run or really hot weather. I will put a gauge on it when nature cooperates but at this time of year it can sit for a little longer

    816 Jakes and Turbo !!!!

    816 Jakes and Turbo !!!!

Likely it is, the 250 pumps dont vary much. the PT pumps dont vary much either, as they were essentually just a giant fuel lift pump to maintain pressure to the valve/cam timed injection.

    816 Jakes and Turbo !!!!

i have run the 250 number through Cummins before and they have no record of it. Thus it was something proprietary to the contractor that was rebuilding them for the military.. I forget the specs on the tag, but its some offshoot of Cummins under a Mil contract.

    816 Jakes and Turbo !!!!

Will look and see what I can come up with, the NTC350 is on my bench (in 8 or 10 peices) and the NHC250 is over the river and through the snow, but not quite to grandmas house.......

    816 Jakes and Turbo !!!!

NHC250 and NTC 350^ are 855....... small cam or big cam they all used a variation of the PT pump, till the AFC PT pump came in the 70s (turbo engines) but they are all 855cu untill the transition to early N14

    816 Jakes and Turbo !!!!

Yes, Ive read that link several times before, I know how to test it, I just have no ambition to wade through the snow to the truck to slip and fall off the truck(for the 3rd or 4th time, last time ended in a broken hand) and freeze while attempting to get it cranked only to work on it in the...

    816 Jakes and Turbo !!!!

RPM is the same, tach out at around 2100 loaded or unloaded. 4th gear loaded as in 60K lbs total with the trailer/dozer is still 2100. I havent been able to pull the trailer as its a solid ice field up here right now. Fuel pressure pre PT is not measurable as I have no way to T into it...

    816 Jakes and Turbo !!!!

I will try and round up the CPL's and eng serial #s for both engines over the weekend,,, they may actually be in this thread near the top.... Basically the engine in the 816 is a depot NHC 250 from 1988. was naturally aspirated and is now jaked and turbo'd by parts robbed from the donor (scrap...

    816 Jakes and Turbo !!!!

Yes, I could,, but with the jakes thats a 3/4 of a day deal,,,, mite as well adjust the valves too while Im in there,,,, hhhmmm better put it off till spring. in all seriousness I do have my plate full right now besides the weather. remodeling a 600sq ft room adding a full bath and the...

    816 Jakes and Turbo !!!!

oil is coming from upstream,, Turbo is brand new and the amount of leakage that is seeping through the manifold tells me its washing the turbo. I really hate cobbling things together outside in the snow with the imaginary justification of coming back to fix them right come spring.... we all know...

    816 Jakes and Turbo !!!!

well finally got a warm day up here in the frozen north, 45*F and I got the snow scraped off the 816 for a little diagnosis. Capped off the rear line on the head and the inj pump and fired it up. Still have to fix the flex point in the throttle shaft where the spring flew away but even with...

    816 Jakes and Turbo !!!!

:ditto: only problem would be tearing down the wrecker long enough to put the 3406 in,,,,, unless I could figure out a way to power the crane assembly while the engine was out,,,,,, then the wrecker could do its own engine swap...........
