You're definitely right about getting harder to put money into hobbies! We just found out last week that the plant is going to be shut down on holidays, and that we are probably not going to be covering vacation days, so that is a MAJOR cut in my hobby fund!
I got her pumping her own fuel today...
Looks like I need to study up on how to get a thumbnail on here - I thought I had it figured out! Hey jeeplvr, have you checked out the willysmjeeps site? They are only M38 and M38a1 guys over there - another great reference site! Also, at the end of my signature there is a link to my ongoing...
Here's a pic of mine from '97 right after I bought it. Sorry about the bad pic - that was back when all I couldn't afford a digital camera (if they even had them out yet).
And now:
Zout - that looks close to what mine did. Mine was blue (a little darker though) and had the same tires! Mine had a hard top though. I'll see if I can find the one and only pic of mine back then.
Clinto - I've found a few videos of the SS GA rallies, and a couple of them looked like fun to...
Yeah, that's what I am working towards too. The original plan (14 yrs ago) was going for showroom condition, but now I am just going for motorpool +. I've had this thing off the road for too long - I just want to use it. And like you said - not so nice that I don't want to scratch it on a trail...
****, anywhere except the garage! I used to love taking my Wrangler out on the trails - my wife did too. My daughter (6 yo) loves the 'a1, even though she has only ridden around the garage in it.
Yeah, get one that won't take a whole lot of work, get it drivable and do a driving resto. That way you can enjoy it for those 14 years - unless the building a family thing gets in the way! I'm back on track to finish her by spring now though - thanks to the beautiful winter weather we're...
The outside looks decent, so maybe it won't even need blasting (if it looks good from the inside - the floors definitely need it though. Paint is cheap - do it yourself and save. Might be worth checking out.
Yeah, that is a decent price. From what I can see, the tank, generator, regulator, headlights, spare tire mount, gas can holder, pintle hook and rear seat are missing. The fenders are pretty high priced too. Wrong carb and wheels (all 4). Starter looks like a 12v (has a solenoid), which means it...
Yeah, you'll have to do some soul searching and decide if you want to put out the extra money at the beginning, or pay a you go - either way, it's going to cost. But starting out with a good base is always better.
Wiring harness is custom too. It's still 24v though. Soo, you're looking at a rear panel, black out lights front and rear, gas tank, carb, fuel pump(?), wiring, interior and a top. Plus whatever is hiding. Yeah, it adds up quick! Of course, you could always keep the carb for now, tape up the...
Well in that case you'll be ok - replacing the 24v system would be a major expense without a parts jeep. You might be alright buying it. The has tank is another definite plus - I had a nightmare when I put an Omix ada one in mine ( you can read that story on my blog if you want - the link is in...
They vary - I've seen them on epay as low as $25 and a high as $350 (I'm sure he didnt sell it though). I was just throwing out a guesstimate on some of the prices - I paid $375 for my wiring 12yrs ago - $500 to $575 is the current price on that for sure. The fuel sender at $65 it's current...
Yeah, Frank's right. There are really 3 seperate categories for purchasing here 1)early civilian (CJ), 2)military (M38a1), and 3) runaround or farm or mudding jeep (don't care what it is). 1 and 2 will price out about the same - around $1500 for a buildable jeep worth saving, and up to around...
