We're real ACTIVE up here so instead of ramming everything in the Early Deuce thread I'll share Alberta Canada Trips In Vehicle Events ACTIVE right here.

I wasn't even looking for an acronym to run under but this just fell off the keyboard so we'll go with it.

The local MVPA has been feeding HMV's to the local towns for parades almost before the MVPA was founded. Hooking up with Hodgson, one of the earlier drivers behind the MVPA, has netted me one of the greatest friends and mentors this hobby could ever find.

I've been running to Onoway since I bought the M1010 in 2010 and Hodgson finally joined us today. The M1010 which I recently sold also came back to pay her respects to the town which first shared our presence in 2010. It was real BIG of the new owner to make sure the 1010 was able to make the 40 mile run from Edmonton and join a fleet spanning 4 decades.

The longest one-way trip to get here belonged to the Dodge Command car, 50 miles.....success. The CCKW and the WW11 Harley ran 40 miles. The heavy rain stopped before we all hit the highway and didn't start again until we were all home....just a perfect day with the ACTIVE contingent.

Pics.

After the short parade we always head up to the local legion. The town holds a car show and the local Fire-department sets up a few trucks.

As we left the staging area headed to the legion, I found myself hooked up behind the CCKW. It was an iconic moment for me following the WW11 Deuce with the big white star in the 1956 Canadian M135.

Having both of my first MV's, the M1010 Goose the M135, was a huge treat.

Onoway Alberta 2016

Goose was staged about 15 minutes from Onoway and I'm not sure if it was the cool moist air but Goose hit 58mph and ran like a top all the way in to town. Gizmo was real tight in behind as tail gunner so maybe we grabbed some NASCAR drafting that helped push Goose to be on time for staging. Grabbed a quick pic that looks much better after a few shots of whiskey.

Two airshows in 5 days netted an intoxicating pool of photos so let's get them out there.

Most recently, Hometown Heroes in Whitecourt, a primary route to Alaska, celebrated BCATP.

P7230261.jpg

Goose sat this 100+ mile trip out and watched as we strapped my MVPA friend's 1942 Dodge Command car on to the trailer. Normally, we tie loads down 'below the suspension' but the 70G chains and boomers can be used to squat the Dodge tight to the deck and avoid any bouncing on our frost heaved roads.

P7230249.jpg

The Whitecourt coordinators are brilliant and staged us in the main entrance along with the vendors, car show folks, f18's and the CL 215T water bomber.

The first MVPA kids that arrived on Saturday morning already had a tent, tables, signage and a very nice supply of Canadian history on display.

Prior to Whitecourt was the mid-week, evening airshow at the Civil Defence 'reception' town of Wetaskiwin. More info and pics on Wetaskiwin Civil Defence will be posted here http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?147809-Civil-Defense-Vehicles-and-Items/page6

With this being a mid-week show the MV team could only muster up one up-armored USMC Humvee. It's a special MV with a fire suppression system and a few other features that attracted a ton of visitors.

My good friend is very active across Canada bringing awareness to our military families needs, front-line heroes, honouring those who serve and never forgetting those who sacrifice their lives for the continued protection of our continent.

P7200582.jpg

Wetaskiwin is a hot-spot for preserving Canada's history and a day visit to this museum is highly encouraged.

Don't forget your shorts, your snow pants or your umbrella because the weather will always be exciting. This little storm gave us a show but skirted around the airshow so we could entertain the little town of 12,000.

We did it! Goat and Goose got up on Saturday morning and headed out for a 20 mile hike to the Edmonton airshow at the remote airport of Villenueve. Gizmo only needed to travel a few miles to get to the airport so we all hooked up at the staging area.

This was Goats first day on the road so we were all nervous and Goat knew it. About 5 minutes into the trip the throttle grabbed the heater hose, she pushed the RPM to the governor and tried to blow the brand new motor . Fortunately, Goats owner was able to get it shut down and we continued on to the show without any problems. The Goat guys are calmer than a leeward bay on a calm day.

Coffee helps.

Landing on runway 034

Our Canadian Civil Defence Museum Association Team rolled out first to nose-gun before the deuces got there. Another sweet display set up by the bunker hunters and the MVPA team.

P8060503.jpg

A very original M135 trio, staged for thousands of greasy fingers, and their parents. More in the G749 Preservation thread with some rare photo op shots.

On Sunday another fleet of MVPA MV's rolled out of Edmonton and area for a sassy, diverse convoy. We hope somebody grabbed pics because the convoy came from 3 different directions and the event organizers managed to get us all in a single convoy for what must have been an impressive image heading down the runway.

Sometimes when we plan an event and the weather forecast states that there is no chance of precipitation, it rains.

The local MVPA was invited to wheel into the Alberta Aviation Museum's Open Cockpit Day and 10 boys said they would show up. The rain kept a few jeeps in the barn but once the rain quit, the parking lot filled up with green.

The first boy left Red Deer before 600hrs so he could wheel his 10 ton Bedford for 2 hours south to Edmonton and meet up with the absolute star of the show.....a very sassy M3 Half-track.

P9170909.jpgP9170915.jpgP9170904.jpgP9170905.jpgP9170908.jpgP9170824.jpg

Those half-track gurus may have seen a frame stamp like this before and the story is Canada ordered the S - Special half-track, direct from Chicago for shipment overseas in 1942.

P9170918.jpg

At the end of the show we found the opportunity to chase the half-track back to his barn on the opposite side of the old airport. Goose and Gizmo had the biggest truck smiles chasing the half-track along surface streets. Very rare event for the local MVPA.

The big Bedford deserves the 95 mile long distance spotlight with a few others dragging the LSVW and Gizmo the 56' M135 for 40 miles.

The military buzzed us all day long in the Griffon so it gave us some real cool picture opportunities.

Dashboard ID

Now let's have some fun. Since it was open cockpit day, I'm going to post some aircraft 'related' pictures and give you kids some time to test your knowledge on what 'unit' the pics are from. These are not all aircraft but each picture is from a unit that is airport related. Take your best shot at dashboard ID.

Great photos, and good idea for a thread. Impressive turn out of vehicles, but where are the CMPs?

Cheers Phil

I wish we had some CMP's on the road. The few that are around are either locked in the barns or still waiting restoration. One of the local MVPA boys grabbed a couple last year and was on the list as the next project.

Here are a few photos on pic #2.....

I'll roll out the info on pics 2,3 and 4 since you kids aren't playing. The others are going to require some input because of their incredibly deep military history and some of you boys should already know what they are.

I cheated a little on the DC-6 however this flight simulator was up and running on Open Cockpit Day and this MV lover successfully, virtually, landed it at the now closed WW11 Blatchford field here in Edmonton. There are 3 active simulators here at the Edmonton museum and the DC-6 is the most realistic and difficult.

Pic # 6 our Daisy Mae

Let's finish this up before I forget. Picture # 6 is a remake of the B-25 my good buddy Terry Champion drove into the hanger that the Alberta Aviation Museum currently resides in.

Daisy Mae is as complete as any static B-25 can be so here are a few extra pics to top off this road trip.

Please stop posting pictures of closed cab CCKWs that will encourage me to do something dumb.
