Installation of winch behind front bumper

First I would like to thank steel soldiers for the great information this site has provided me over the years.

I know this has been posted before and that’s where I got the idea but I couldn’t find anybody that mounted a winch behind the bumper that used a synthetic rope and therefore no fairlead. I was concerned about torque on the bumper so I built a frame between the rails to give extra support. I am going to try and upload pictures to show how I mounted the winch and the support bracket.

I dig it, behind the bumper is perfect location on CUCV's...what winch and mounting plate did you use?

The winch is a viper 12,000lbs. I bought it off eBay for I think $325. I don’t remember the plate I purchased but it was 1/4” 28” off of amazon and I paid $50. I had to cut of about four inches on each side to get it to fit. The bumper plate was some scrap metal I had so for less than $400 wasn’t a bad deal. Took a lot of cutting and grinding and about half way through I thought “I should’ve just bought a new bumper” lol.

Thank you very much. The only fab work I did was to the support bracket for the bumper, which was two pieces of angle iron and a 1/4" plate welded together. The winch is bolted directly to the top flange of the frame. I used two existing holes already in the frame and drill two more. There are four grade 8 bolts holding the winch plate to the frame. I hope that makes since. I kept the plate tight to the web of the c channel in an effort to give more strength for any possible torque from side to side.
