    Default MEP004a, Exciter, T2 failure

    T2 failure. H1, H2 open primary. Center tapped secondaries, X1, X2, X3 are conductive. 72-2609=5950-00-600-0840.
    Any ideas?

Is rewinding the primary winding practical? What Gauge wire...How many turns?
The plastic is OK. The tabs are OK. But the carbon smell is present.

    Salvage availability?

Is MEP004a Exciter the same from MEP004 thru MEP007 for an Exciter assembly swap?
    Thanks,
    Joe

The transformer is the same for the 004A and 005A, ONLY.

I don't suppose you looked in the big auction site? There is one for 450 bucks. Little steep for me, but I don't need one.

Couldnít agree more. 450 is steep. Xfmr or exciter chassis Salvage /carcass would seem tenable. Any salvage opportunities between Houston and Dallas? That transformer is a boat anchor. Thanks!

I found a company that would build one for $400 a few years ago. I was able to find a couple so I never needed it.
I may be able to find the info if needed.

Thanks. I would look into it. What is the best path to find a used one? Salvage would be OK.
