Supply and demand. I will not gage by cost so much as availability of replacement parts, and quality of product.

The HMMWV is available in increasing numbers. The prices I believe are artificially inflated still. I will try and purchase more than one truck, as to have extra parts when needed, when I need I have. But I have a place to store vehicles or parts.

Economics for repair and or replace for me are random. Time will usually dictate how I decide what to do. Cost will be next with dependability of part, machine. I do not want to be in a place to where a breakdown will occur and not be able to repair or return to home base.

So this does not bode well for rebuilding this unit

Think the winch may have drawn a little too much current.

You won’t know for sure until you unbutton and see the internals for yourself. Looks like you might be correct about motor being fried BUT open the unit to be sure IMHO

At least now I can get it apart and see how bad it is.

Because it's my first winch project I may buy a new Ramsey 12000 and take my time repairing this one. Biggest hesitation is no experience with winches. Thanks to all for the input, it is always appreciated. Gotta learn somewhere.
One may have more than one winch on their truck
I was here, had a good time.
