IIRC, the M47 you refer to was reimported to this country prior to the Clinton-era ban on the reimportation of U.S. made military equipment (still in effect). Soviet, Brit and other vehicles can come in (at least at this moment, but I'll bet that changes soon) - but U.S. built equipment cannot be repatriated.
