You don't need it.

Permalink is added in by vBSEO. It does serve a purpose, but it is suggested by some to change the settings so that it only displays the post number, not the actual phrase "permalink".

if youw ant to link to your exact post you click permalink and it changes the website name to http://www.blahblahblah.post#####

Then when yuou copy and post/click the link it takes you right to that post
