Trailer 8.jpg

I recently purchased what was advertised as an M101A2 trailer. The picture matches the description with the surge brakes and 8 lug wheels. However, the data plate shows it as an M101A1 and gives the date of manufacture as 1968. My understanding is the M101A1 does not have the surge brakes and has 6 lug wheels. I could possibly see them adding a surge brake, but upgrade the axle? Not sure.

Don't get me wrong, I love that it's a 1968, but what gives?

Thanks, Wreckerman893, That's what I was thinking. Personally, I prefer the A1 and will probably remove the surge brake.

By the way, I love your Pogo. I remember reading Pogo back in the 60's and remember that quote - and have used it quite a bit lately.

The a1 axle doesnt have the brakes to use with the surge set up. In order to upgrade to the a2 you have to do both the surge assembly and the axle.

Are you looking at a data plate on the trailer body or on the frame?

Could be a data plate re-assignment case as well.

Edit; just went back and reviewed the pic again. I'm very inclined to say data plate re-assignment. This trailer has the larger frame of the late model trailers.

The data plate is located on the body.

harleyhouse - thanks! I haven't seen it up close, yet. My son picked it up and I'm going to make the drive to Kansas to get it in a couple weeks.

I'm probably going to keep it stock except for the surge brakes. Now, I need to find the allusive tan cover.
