1985 M1008 electrical question(s)(long)

when I got my truck, it was missing the fuel pump and lines,the fuel tank had been removed and was in the bed, the fuel filter mount was in the cab with the intake manifold...I now have the truck running, but I have some questions: 1) there are 3 wires(pink/blk stripe, yellow/blk stripe, black)that come from the rear of the fuel filter for the "water in fuel" sensor(I think)they go into a connector with 3 male pins that isn't connected to anything...2) very close to the connector in question 1) is a connector with 4 male pins(red, pink/blk stripe, yellow, black wires)that is not connected...am I missing something that would plug into either or both of these connectors?...3) with the main headlamp switch off, and the service lamp switch up, the horn activates and the bulb behind the voltmeter illuminates...the horn does not work otherwise...4) the glow plug "wait" lamp does not work, and 5) the voltmeter does not work...I do have the CD from Military Manuals for this truck(which doesn't help me as far as if I'm missing parts for 1) and 2), but I thought I would throw these questions to the group to see if someone could point me in a direction so I don't have to start from scratch...thanks...Wilf

The horn is tied into the blackout light switches. You possibly have a short up in the steering wheel area. Possibly someone in the past removed the steering wheel and pinched the horn wire.

I'll take a photo of my fuel filter block and wiring and post it here. That should help sort things out.

If you haven't already, don't bother replacing the mechanical pump. Just by an electric frame rail pump for a later model chevy diesel and splice it in near the tank. It makes thinks so much easier to change filters, bleed air, etc... Also if you have a little air leak in front of the injection pump it will help prevent those hard start and endless cranking problems.

tanx Chris...I don't have any problems with the the transfer pump or the inj. pump...when I bought the truck from GL, there wasn't an inj. pump or lines on it and I've since acquired one, had it rebuilt and installed...the truck runs great, but I've got some of these electrical details to sort out before I get the truck on the road...Wilf
