'44 GMC CCKW Restoration

Newbie from Kansas has acquired a truck that has been described as a '44 GMC CCKW. I have no documentation. The truck runs and I intend to restore it. My first question is the shift pattern. The main box (transmission) is 5-speed, with 1st down and to the right, the rest if regular H-pattern. However, the transfer case has me baffled. It has 2 levers. When both are forward, I appear to be in 6-wheel drive low. When left-most lever is back, I think i'm in high-range.

Does anyone have a shift diagram for this truck?

Second question: I will repaint this truck, and want to put Olive Drab on it. Is there a good source for this paint?

Are your data plates missing? What is your frame serial number? 1944 is too late for closed cab.

I will look for the data plate. Can you tell me where the frame number is?

My understanding is that the truck was originally an open cab, but was in an accident, and someone replaced the cab. The truck was used to move houses out here in El Dorado, KS.

Thanks for the information. I managed to get the left-hand lever (range selector) into high range, but can't seem to move the right-hand lever so as to disconnect front-wheel drive. Is there a trick to doing this?

Yes, the driveline is bound up, drive in reverse while pressing on the lever.

Huge thanks for that suggestion; it worked like a charm. She drives fine now.

Have attached some pix of the old girl. I'm having her hauled off to the painter today for a new paint job, and then I'll get her back in my shop and start on the cab interior. It's still 6V electrical, and starts fine, although I may convert it to 12V. Original engine, as far as I know. As I mentioned, the cab has been replaced. I included a picture of the data plate in the cab.
