6.2 diesel oil filter location?

Any one have any idea why some military 6.2 have the oil filter horizontal verse the common vertical. Will horzontal filter engine fit in blazer???

Horizontal definitely HMMWV. I have an old one I took off a HMMWV block and it measures 8" from the center of the pickup tube (where vertical filter screws on) to the tip of a mounted filter. I put a CUCV filter assembly housing on a HMMWV block for an install in a M715 frame due to space problems.

hmmwv's use the horizontal filter as noted above. you can change the filter base by removing the bolts that hold it to the block and putting the regular filter base in its place.
