ok, so I'm trying to acquire another blazer(gotta be a diesel with the gas prices) to fill this void I've been having and I came across this "84"m1009 in need of a good amount of help and the guy says he that he bought it from the forest service 4yrs ago and never registered it ( yeah I know the troubles that can be had from that with the last cucv I dropped coin on) and that all it needs is a bill of sale. So with that said I asked him for the vin# so I could get with the local dmv and see what problems could arise and he gave me this- vin # 1G8ED1816FF196196

I've seen the fact post and deciphered the numbers and it just doesnt seem right so I asked him to give me both #'s(dash & dr door #'s) so I guess the Q I have is should I forget about it and run or is there someway around this?

Well, the second 1 should be a J, the rest decodes just fine for a 1985 M1009. The seller of my last CUCV made the same mistake in sending me the VIN.

1 = US Manufactured
G = General Motors
8 = Utility Vehicle
E = 6-7K lb hydraulic brakes
D = Government Direct Sales
1 = 1/2 ton
8 = Blazer
J = 6.2 Diesel (heavy duty emissions)
6 = check digit
F = 1985 model year
F = Produced at the Flint Michigan plant
196196 = consecutive unit number

As to what you should do... that's up to you. Did he get an SF-97 from GSA when he bought it? I know Georgia doesn't require a title for older vehicles, so you might not need anything else, but if he has the SF-97, it would make things easier.

Later,
Joe

ok, so this is how he reply s to my concerns about the vin-

this is the right vin, if you want the truck lets stop playing games and
get serious or stop wasting my time

i have decoded the vin in estimating systems before and it decodes as a
84 k5 blazer, as the ad says it needs work, if you are looking for a new
truck this is not it, as the add shows and says would be a good woods
truck or good project truck. meaning you migh not be able to register it
and if you cant then tough sh!t

oh, and the phones arnt working at the reg. office to check
