CARC question?

Is anyone familiar with the process of painting over CARC? <img src="emoticons/icon_smile_question.gif" alt="Question">

What I would like to do, is touch up a few small areas that are currently painted with CARC!

Can Gillespie paints be applied over CARC? <img src="emoticons/icon_smile_question.gif" alt="Question"> <img src="emoticons/icon_smile_shrug.gif" alt="Shrug">

I am also looking to repaint or touch up some CARC. It seems the CARC is just flaking away. Any ideas?

No problem painting over the CARC. I do advise using a sealer though, as the CARC seems to act like a sponge to most paints especially the desert colors.

You should refer to TB 43-0242 "CARC SPOT PAINTING" You can probably down load it from the LOGSA web site. Oops, I just noticed this is a really old thread. Well, if you're still interested, that manual should give you the info you need.

This thread seems to be long over...but I thought I'd chime in...


I've painted directly over CARC with no ill effects. Rick, are you planning to re-paint the truck, or just touchn up a few spots? For touch ups, the CARC-like Gillespie paints match fairly well. Use Krylon ultra-flat black instead of the Gillespie black, which looks too shiny for my taste.

Rick, if Bruce lists his collection of green toys some folks are going to faint. His motorpool is far better than most reserve units not to mention much more up to date! Nobody has a collection of 900 series trucks like Bruce!
