I noticed that my front fender had a 3 inch crack in it. I welded it in the course of some other repairs but it bugged me. I also noticed that the headlight panel on that side always shook a lot more than the other side.
Well, here is the reason.
Lazy a** soldier B mounted the fender onto the fender bracket without an underlay (bad) and tightened the three 7/16 fender bolts without putting the springs over the bolt (badder).
If you have never looked, go look. The springs allow the fender to lift off its mounting points when the frame flexes during off roading. If it is bolted on solid, the fender will bend and, eventually, tear.
I used 7/16 stainless replacement bolts with self locking nuts. The springs are from Amazon (I think) and are medium compression. The underlay is cut from the jacket of an old fire hose.
