Clueless In Texas - ECV M1151 Electronic speedometer

Tried to replace the electronic sending unit. Looks as though the square ended shaft broke off inside the opening to the transfer case. WTF do I do now? Here's what the sending unit looks like and a photo of an unbroken shaft. Shaft won't go into the whole as it seems there is a piece of the old shaft still in it.

I pulled out the gear shaft and just as I thought, the shaft from the sending unit had broken off into the gear shaft. Tried like hell to get it out. Finally just pulled another one out of another 1151 and replaced everything.
