Are there any internal differences between M1009, M1008, M1028, and M1031? I've seen different numbers cast into the housing like 26, 28, 28HD maybe more, but I didn't know if one was better than another. If it came out of a CUCV are they all the same?
Thanks.

The answer is in the parts manual, TM 2320-289-34P. Parts specific to certain models have a Usable On Code (UOC) on the part identifier. The case has no UOC, part number 8627996, figure 75, item 5. Assembly is part 8655111 on figure 71, item 6. No UOC. So all THM400 transmissions are identical in the CUCV line.

The case is die cast aluminum, the numbers you see are probably mold identifiers.

UOC explained on page 4. 194 is the base M1008, 208 is M1008A1, 209 is M1009...

On a CUCV all the TH400 cases and internal parts are the same. I have had many that had HD embossed on the bell housing section and many more that did not. The HD is the bottom half of the bell housing is threaded with M10 bolts for the lower flexplate/ flywheel cover. I have bought new TH400 cases in the past and they were made even heavier at the tail section where many failed due to stress from being lifted with a forklift. TH400 4X4 HD cases are getting harder to find. I broke many in the snow plowing business. I kept everyone I could get my hands on. I drove to Philly last winter to pick one up that was offered here for free. Good Luck.
