Well a few of us from the CMVPA boucht a few trucks up at ft indiantown gap PA. I and my brother each bought one, as well as 2 other members in our club. My dad also bought a m109 w/w out of ft meade md. So we all went up to pa, picked up the 4, drove to MD to get the 109 then all the way back to nc. We all got back safely no major problems. The "does not run" truck developed an oil leak that had the whole underside covered in oil, and another truck had to remove its thermostat once the weather got hot to keep it cool. But that's the only problems we had for a 430-450 mile trip.
Started out on thursday afternoon, we drove to annevile pa and got a hotel room. Friday morning we met with the other members of our group and went on base to retrieve the trucks at 8:00am on the dot. All looked good. The truck that was bought for cheap that said it didnt run just needed a jump start. My brothers fired right up, and the guy charles truck turned out to have a BRAND NEW motor in it. My truck, dead batteries. Didn't say that in the description.
Pulled out and went to the hotel. All trucks recieved oil changes, and full checkovers and greasing the joints. My dad and matt went off early to make the 1:30 appointment to get his truck from ft meade maryland. We pulled out about an hour later and started the first leg of the journy. 130 miles to maryland. We had perfect timing, because we got off the highway and to the meeting spot just 10 min before they did. we ate, and then realized that we were now stuck in the DC traffic. Instead of fighting 3-4 hours of stop and go traffic, we decided to rest and get a hotel room. We got a room, rested, and hit the road at 7-7:30 the next morning. Driving, gas stops, and a little maintenance and we were finally at the storage lot in knightdale around 6:30
All trucks ran great, and as an added bonus, when we removed the cargo cover from my brothers truck we realized that it was dropside!! didn't say that in the add!!! lucky him right. but his soft top did split from the windshield frame so he got to drive from 20 miles out of pa all the way to nc topless.
once back safely, i was given a lesson from a fellow member on how to properly use a tow bar and tow a deuce. It's a lot more involved that I thought and i'm glad he had the knowledge and was willing to share and teach. Thank you Rob.
But man what a trip; i'm super excited that all 5 trucks made it home under their own power with no major problems.
now for the good stuff. the pictures.
here's a vid of us on I-95 right outside of DC
