Fan drive pulley

Can anyone tell me if the Fan belt drive pulley that bolts to the crank only fit in one way. To put it another way, does the bolt pattern only allow the pulley to mount in one position If this is true, does that mean that when the marking on the pulley tell me I am at top dead center when the engine is in the compression position?
